Default Help! Tucker is very constipated

I took Tucker out and he was trying to poop but couldn't. When I came back in and talked to my husband and 2 kids we concluded that he has not pooped in at least 2 days. I tried to do a search but it wouldn't work. Anyone know what to give him to help him go?

Give him 1 teaspoon of plain canned pumpkin twice a day. You can add a little karo syrup to make it taste better. I pray he does not have a blockage. If he starts running any temperature or acting sick then please take him to the vet. Please keep us updated.

Thank you. If he doesn't go today, our vet is opened on Sunday so I'll take him. He is not distressed at all. His usual energetic, goofy self.

You can usually get instant relief for them with a slither sliced off a glycerin suppository. Good luck, I hope he gets to feeling better.

Also, a bit of "lube" will also help - so a bit of butter and/or olive oil/canola added to his food may help. I would also encourage him to drink extra water - maybe add some karo to a small bowl of water so he'll drink some extra water.

I knew about the pumpkin but this is a great idea in a real "NEED TO GO" situation!

Hope Tucker is doing better!

Oil is what I was going to say too. I put a little vegetable oil in Baby's water and the poop slides out.

No poop yet. I think I'm going to try giving him the suppository. (THAT should be interesting). He drinks plenty of water, I fill his dish twice a day. I gave him some pumpkin. He's not in any distress and he is eating and drinking. He strains but doesn't go. If he doesn't go tonight I'll take him to the vet in the morning. I'm thinking the suppository should do it, I'll keep you posted.

Thanks for your great advice and thoughts. Tucker is fine. He had a normal (pumpkin colored) poop this morning. I don't know why he didn't go for a few days but he was never in any distress and his tummy wasn't extended. Should I give him a spoon full of pumpkin every day to keep him normal, or is it just for when he can't go? Thanks again for helping us!
