| Decreased Appetite Frederick was neutered 2 weeks ago, and ever since then he never wants to eat. I haven't changed his diet at all, but the only way I can get him to eat is to put the kibbles on the floor or to feed him canned food. I really didn't want to use canned food, but I couldn't let him go too long without eating. The only other thing that is different is that he is losing some of his baby teeth, but when I can get him to eat he has no problems with the kibbles, so I don't think that's the problem. Has anyone else had an appetite problem after neutering? Thanks for your help! |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I would think it's more related to teething and sore gums than neutering. I'm surprised the vet neutered him that quick if he still had retained baby teeth (you usually have all baby teeth pulled when they're under during the neuter). If he is teething and sore, he may not want to eat kibble bc it hurts - so you may want to pick up canned.

| I agree that it could be his teeth or he could be getting spoiled and want to be hand fed!! My chihuahua gets that way, she won't eat and she's only 3 lbs so I will hand feed her a few pieces of kibble and then she sits there looking at me like, "Well, aren't you going to feed me the rest?" You said you hand fed him so he would eat, could it be that he likes the attention and wants you to continue! Just an idea!

| Maybe it is the teething then. I didn't know they pulled the baby teeth when they are neutered. The vet never mentioned anything about that. I'm getting a new vet tomorrow because I really don't like the one I've been using. I don't think he is being spoiled by eating from the floor because he has always eaten from his bowl before. I am taking him to the vet tomorrow just to make sure everything is okay, but I guess I'll keep giving him canned food until then. I just don't want him to get spoiled on canned food because then he will never eat his kibbles again lol. |
