Donating YT 2000 Club Member | I need a good food I can put in a Syringe?(Jinny) Jinny is refusing to eat again. Only thing I can do is force feed her with a Syringe and when I do she keeps it down good. I have been doing some liver broth. My question what is the best liquid food I can get to give her the most calories. I thought about puppy forumla but don't know. She is already on Pet-tinic for iron. I am going to call the vet and stop buy Pet supply plus to see what I can find. I was hoping you all can give me some ideas Thanks Hugs, Melissa

| First of all, I am so thankful she is home. If she was eating dry food before you can take the dry food and blend it in a blender until it is real fine. You could add a little baby food peas, carrots, green beans or sweet potatoes, etc to the ground up dry food and give it to her by hand. I pray she gets better soon. |

| When Lily was sick I would Mix Innova soft food with a little warm water and that worked well.

| I just read your other post. I'm so sorry. Have you tried doing what Nikkinack said and mix a good canned food with water and try to syringe that? You could also ask your vet about using PediaSure. It is used for liver compromised dogs when they won't eat.

| I think if you mixed baby food meats and veggies together and maybe added a little broth it would work and also be much better than dog food. |

My Tiny Treasures Donating Member | I have a couple suggestions for you: I make this formula and it has more calories per CC than store bought formula 1 cup full fat plain yogart 1 table spoon real mayo 1 can evaporated milk or goats milk 1 teaspoon karo surup 2 egg yokes I also substitute the karo surup for nutrical and tweek things a little bit. Blend it all together and it makes a thick formula. I've raised a new born on this as well as fed it to a ill cat who wouldnt eat anything but this. I also recomend using a blender and making the soft food more liguid. I've not yet had one refuse Ceasers Puppy. I know this isn't a "good" food BUT I always keep this on hand for when I have someone who isn't eating and it has not failed me yet. Also you could boil chicken and hambuger and blend that as well. I wish you luck and please keep us posted!!! |

Donating YT 2000 Club Member | Thank you all. She ate Ceasars about 1/2 of it 2 days..now nothing..won't have it. Only way to get her to eat is force her with syringe... She will eat it once it is in her mouth.

| I'm sure everyone has thought of every possible thing but is it in any way possible her mouth/jaw could be in pain? Grasping at straws, I feel so bad for her!

| We had the same problem with our little girl. She'd eat a certain kind of food for a few days or sometimes a week and then refuse to eat again. Anyway, the thing that saved us many times was this recipe from a breeder: 1 c milk 1 c instant baby rice cereal 1 jar strained baby meat (no turkey) 1 tsp. karo syrup Warm up the milk and mix in the instant cereal, stir until thick. Stir in the strained meat and karo syrup. If too thick, add more milk. Store in the fridge. We fed this to our little girl in a syringe when she wouldn't eat. She started liking it so much we'd just put a couple spoonfuls in her dish after a while and she'd lick it up. |

| I was also thinking that The Honest Kitchen being freeze-dried raw that you hydrate with warm water might be really good as you can mix it very thin. I could send you a little to try if you PM me your address.........

"She refused to eat, but we used a formula that was recommended by a breeder and put it in a syringe to feed her. She kept it down just fine. The syringe only gave her maybe a couple spoonfuls at a time and she'd get about one-and-a-half down each time. Here's the formula: 1 cup milk (we generally use 1% regular, or use goat's milk which is more digestible and available at the health food store) 1 cup instant baby rice cereal flakes 1 jar strained baby meat (no turkey) 1 tsp karo syrup Warm up the milk and mix in the cereal until thick. Stir in the strained baby meat and karo. If the mixture is too thick, add a little more milk or water. Refrigerate left-overs and warm up to serve the next time. Our little girl liked this formula so much we did not have to force her, and eventually, we just put a few spoonfuls on a saucer and she licked it right up." I hope this helps, Lauren
