Sammy's LP Surgery Update - 2 days after surgery 4 Attachment(s) Hey! OK Sammy had LP surgery on Thursday. She was supposed to stay overnight but they got her surgery done early so she was able to come home the same day! The night was hard but we knew it would be. She was in pain and she couldn't figure out why these big things were on her legs. We all had to figure out how on earth she was supposed to pee !?! I tried a pee-pad and she just looked at me like I was crazy. Of course we got like an inch of snow so it was wet and cold outside, but we gave up and took her out there and she peed! She's gone out like every 4-5 hours no problem and she even pooped outside this afternoon!! I had to hold her up but she did it. It was a team effort. :D They didn't want to send her home until she was up standing and walking on the bandages, and she wasn't, but we encouraged her and we have been practicing and she has really started to move quickly! I need to take a video. Overall we are so lucky. So far she has not had a reaction to the pain meds - no diarrhea. They do wear off about 2 hours before she can have more though and they take a while to kick in. Oh and she did try to lick/chew one of the bandages but we are watching her very closely now. But she is alert and silly and barking at us when we don't pay attention to her. ----------------------- OK so AS I'm typing this she needs to go outside and she pees blood. So 6 hours later we are home from the ER vet and she has a UTI. We knew it couldn't go perfectly smooth... poor thing she is exhausted and so are we. I'm too wired now to sleep so she is snuggled up next to me and I'm posting pictures anyway. Here she is the night we got home, then sitting pretty, chewing a bully stick, and trying to walk. |
Awwww, the poor little peanut!! Sorry to hear about the UTI, hopefully it will be cleared up soon with antibiotics. It won't be long and Sammy will get those bandages off and feel much better. My lil girl Shelby had her surgery (both legs also) 4 weeks ago. The most difficult thing after 4 weeks is keeping them from running and jumping so they don't injure themselves. Good Luck to you and Sammy...... keep us posted on the progress!!! ....... even with those bandages, it amazes me that they can still have that little "smile"!!! |
Poor Sammy! All in all, sounds like she is doing great. Here's hoping that things continue well and the UTI clears up. We hear of so many that won't/can't pee or poop after surgery so I was happy to hear that she already has. It's good to see that her little face still looks happy! Thanks for the update. ;) |
sorry about the UTI but she looks good! Her eyes are nice and bright and she seems to be adjusting well. Heal quickly sweet baby! |
Aww poor baby. As if she didn't have enough pain. Hope she feels better soon. |
aww..i am sooo sorry about the UTI. But so glad the surgery went well..she is sooo adorable as always! |
Aww, she looks wonderful!!! Sorry to hear about the UTI, but otherwise it sounds like she is doing really well. Sending lots of yorkie hugs and kisses for a speedy recovery! |
poor sweet baby, hope she gets better soon ! |
Poor Sammy, brings back memories of Gracie going through the same thing a couple of months ago. Ask your vet if you can give the pain meds more often, most likely you can. Keep us posted and PM me if you have any questions. I am happy to help if I can. |
Poor baby!:( You are such a wonderful mommy! Good job! :) Sorry about the UTI, and I think asking about more pain meds would be a good idea. Hugs from, Judy and Gizmo |
Hi. Is there an update on our sweet Sammy? Thanks, Deborah |
Sammy is doing OK when the pain meds are working. She is wagging her tail and being silly but she still wants to be held a lot and cuddled. We are going to videotape her walking later and we will post that. |
Thanks for the update. Still praying that little Sammy will have a quick recovery! Toto says tell Sammy that she's pulling for her ... Yorkie girls are strong! :p |
awww...the sweet baby. I hope she feels better soon!! she is looking great considering what she just went through! I hope she figures out how to use her clubs soon and can be back to being her normal self :) the hardest part of having the casts on is keeping them from getting wet and dirty so you don't have to have them changed out all the time. That was noooo fun at all :( but i'm sure she will be running around and amazing you all very soon :) me and the girls send lots of huggles!! |
