| Roxi is acting very nuts after surgery!! this can't be normal My little girl Roxi had surgery on Friday.. She got fixed, microchipped, and had 14 teeth removed!! Your probably thinking thats a lot to do at once, so did I but I have a amazing vet and they say because Roxi is so small ( 2lbs 8 oz) it's dangerous for her to have to go under for surgery any more times than she needs to.. She is doing so much better already but she keeps jumping up like every two minutes when she's trying to sleep like she is startled and she just runs around like crazy and rubs her face on the floor, and won't calm back down for like an hour!! Then she calms down and the process starts all over again! It's starting to freak me out a little. The Dr said to call back tomorrow if it's still ongoing but I'm just concerned it's some permanent side affect from being put under for surgery.. I also stopped the pain medicine cause that made it worse, and since she's running around like this she can't be in that much pain!! Maybe she's just extremely itchy?? that's all I can think of... Has anyone else ever gone thru this?? Thanks so much! Melanie & Roxi |

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | Hey Melaine...first off welcome to YT. When I had Lulu spayed I never saw any of that and she was the same size as your baby Roxi. I would definitely speak to the vet becuase she might be having a side effect of the anesthesia or maybe a reaction to the pain meds that they give them for after the surgery. Either way good luck and hope she feels better soon.

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | It could be. But I am also thinking that if she didnt' get any pain meds her mouth must be hurting like a bugger and that is why she is rubbing it all over the place. I suggest giving her the pain meds and seeing how she does after. How old is she that she needed that many teeth pulled? Lulu was spayed at 7 months and she had maybe four pulled. The rest dropped on their own..what he pulled were the definite doubles. Did the vet remove all the baby teeth and leave her only with the few adults and spaces?

| No....that would not be what I'd expect....I have 3 Yorkies all at 4lbs or a little less in the case of Tammy who was my last to be fixed. I would say that she is not doing that as she is not sore.....SHE IS DOING IT BECAUSE SHE IS SORE !!!! I found that surgery is really hard on these tiny dogs....Tara had baby teeth out too, Casper has had no surgery, and Tammy had rotten teeth out at the same time as her speying as she was bought as a rescue at 3 years old and they hadn't looked after her teeth.....she was very poorly....see pic below....I would get onto the Vet in the morning, if not sooner if you are worried....they should have her in overnight....she needs good pain meds and she needs to do as little as possible....certainly NOT running around as she will tear her stitches internally as well....PHONE THAT VET and ask their advice....that's what I'd be doing. Let us know how she goes.....it is a worrying time as they get so ill....but you did the right thing getting the teeth out too at the same time....hopefully she won't ever have to go through that again. She must be sooooo cute being that small YOU NEED HER CHECKED AND ALSO PAIN MEDS THAT AGREE WITH HER....SHE IS SORE. Best wishes to you and her.....Debra x x x x pic one....Tammy after her speying and teeth out....she was like this for 3-4 days pic two.... Tammy, Casper, Tara |

| Oh and BTW, the pain meds will keep her doped up and sleepy like Tammy was....and NOT running around tearing her insides....she is still raw....she needs to rest ....GOOD LUCK, you are doing fine....I know it's worrying .....Debra x |

| she's 8 months and she had two complete sets of teeth! so they had to pull 14 of them that were problematic.. now she just a complete set of adult teeth. I do have pain meds but she was so looped from them and I only gave her half as perscribed. And because she has been running around that she wasn't in pain. Maybe I should give her some. Maybe this is how she is dealing with the pain. |

| thanks, she does have pain meds, I just thought if she was running around she wasn't in pain. maybe this is how she is dealing with it. She also did have 14 teeth removed along with the spay. I will give it to her now. guess being doped up is better than being in pain.. |

Yorkies are very resilient and they tend out be very active so she is trying to be normal self but you need to keep her still a bit more.

| Good I am glad you tried the pain meds again.....hopefully this will just make her sleepy and no worse...if you think she is reacting unusual, just give the vet a phone for advice....but I bet now she has her meds she will sleep ok.....I hope so anyway ! Tammy was in a right blood-y mess when I got her home after her spey and teeth out and I felt soooo guilty...she was only 3lbs in weight when I bought her at 3, so it was a lot for a tiny 3 year old who had never seen a vet in her life before ! I was worried too.....you don't think they will ever recover, but once those pain meds have run out, believe me you will have trouble stopping her jumping onto furniture....which I had strict instructions from the vet not to let her do as she would rupture internal stitches ! The teeth alone is bad on her....when my first puppy Tara who is now nearly 8 and 4lbs had all of her puppy teeth out due to two sets like yours, she was so sore and ill afterwards ! I am sure if you clicked on my name you'd read old posts telling everyone on here about poor Tammy's ordeal last year....I was worried sick as well....I think that is good, as it shows you are a caring owner and better safe than sorry ! You will thoroughly enjoy this site....so many lovely people and soooo helpful....and we all love to show pics of our babies, so get that camera going....once they are on "your pictures" on your computer, you just press the "manage attachments" below this window on your message that you are posting and it will show you how to upload them ! GOOD LUCK with your puppy....I bet she is gorgeous ! Debra, Highland Scotland Tara nearly 8 (THE QUEEN) Casper 5 and a half (CHEEKY SMILER) Tammy 4 and a half (ASBO) Debra and three 4lb babies !!! |

| ROXI IS LOVELY....VERY CUTE ! ..What a lovely face she has !!! You will find that since she has missed doses, that it isn't built up in her system like it would have been....so it will take another dose when it's due to really kick in....but I think you are doing the right thing in taking her to get the once over in the morning....remember to tell the vet your concerns about the medication she is on, and why you stopped it for a while, and what she was like off it...ie. all the face scrubbing..... He might try her on another medication if he thinks it would be better, but he will be pleased you checked with him. Oh I am a trained Nurse if you are wondering...a lot of us on here are.....we nurses seem to love Yorkies ! A lot of Nursing stuff translates to animals She will be aggitated tonight...she is feeling a LOT of pain, but she won't remember it as she is now so doped up....the movements are just because the pain is still there and she hasn't enough drug in her system to put her right to sleep....don't worry - and don't give her any more than she is meant to have....that dose will let her rest now, even if she is still moaning and moving a bit....that is what I would expect Either phone the vet or take her in, in the morning and ask him loads of questions and get some reassurance.....tell him you were really scared and worried by her obvious pain and ask is she ok. Go and get some sleep and keep her near you and just stroke her through the night if she is sore....you could try her behind your pillow, but I would be worried in her drugged up state that she might leap out of the bed when she has a jab of pain....so make sure she is safe and secure next to you somehow...maybe a carrier ? I am off to bed myself, but let us know how she is next time you come on..... Debra x x x 1. Tammy ill after teeth out and spey 2. Tammy now ! 3. pic of my three babies...Tammy 4+ / Casper 5+ / Tara nearly 8 |
