how to cure constipation (beware, might be gross)? hi there, i think my puppy is constipated, but only slightly because the stool does come out, but when it does, it seems like he's really struggling to get it out, and it comes out real slow and sometimes he whimpers. this morning, his poo actually got stuck, and i had to pull it off for him. my question is, how do i help get his stool softer without giving him diahrea? i haven't changed his food or anything... i only started noticing this change since Saturday (Mar 8) after his vet visit. he just got his 4th vaccination, but i don't think that would have any affect on his stool. any thoughts on this theory? is there any human medication i can give him in a very small dose (like ex-lax or something)? any advice would be appreciated. Thanks! |
Canned pumpkin (no spices added) helps with both diarrhea and constipation. |

I just was going to add the same thing about the pumpkin, and some people swear by a little mineral oil, mind you I haven't tried that, but I thought I would mention that as well.... good luck in getting your little one feeling better...:D </IMG> |
Plain canned pumpkin works wonders for diarrhea and constipation. Give about 1 teaspoon in morning and another in the evening. I would be a little concerned if this problem does not correct itself pretty quick. Sometimes dogs eat things that are not digestible that could block the colon. Also, make sure the hair is trimmed short around the anus so the poop does not get hung up in the hair. What kind of food is he on? |
