| Sick puppy - vomiting/diarrhea I have a 12 week old 2 lb yorkie that threw up about 2 this afternoon. He laid around for about 30 - 45 minutes and then drank, ate, and seem to be perfectly normal. Then about 6:30 this evening he threw up again and had diarrhea. He seems to be perking up again but I went ahead and called the vet. My problem is that he is out of town and I am forced to drive over an hour away to an emergency vet that I have not been happy with in the past. Does anyone have any advice for me? I don't know what he could have gotten in that would make him sick. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. |

| oh please get your baby to a vet. He could get dehydrated and that is dangerous. Try giving NutriCal to stave off hypoglycemia at least. But do call a vet and see if they will give you some advice over the phone. This is a holiday weekend. (seems my baby always gets sick either on a weekend or at night). And if the vets where you live are like the ones here. The secretary (receptionist) always says she knows nothing and you must come in to see the vet. I just know there is someone on this forum that will have better advice for you. Good luck!

| Yeah unfortunately, Franklin always gets sick on the weekend as well. Please get him to a hospital. I don't want to scare you but those were Franklin's symptoms and he ended up staying 6 nights at the vets for Parvo. It's very very scary! And if he's throwing up and having diarrhea, he could very easily get dehydrated. Keep us updated!

| Sick Puppy Reply We took Jasper to the emergency vet. They were very nice on this trip. He was examined and x-rayed. The first set of x-rays appeared that he may have eaten something causing a blockage. A second x-ray was done after he took barium. They showed the barium was making it all the way through so the blockage was ruled out. The vet thinks he ingested a little something that didn't agree with him causing the GI upset. He got two shots to relieve the nausea, one injection of fluids, and antibiotics for home. Thanks so much for your support and kind words. |

| I would be more concerned with it being, as other have said, something like parvo or coccidia. Please keep an eye on your little one!

| Sick puppy She did not run a parvo test. She did ask me if he were around other dogs and if his shots were up to date. He has not thrown up all day today and is feeling back to his old self. He has an appointment to go Wednesday for this third set of shots so I will tell his regular vet about the trip. Thanks to all. |

| I'm glad to hear he's feeling better and that he'll be seeing his regular vet, too. Maybe he can be checked for parvo just in case.

| I think checking for Parvo just in case is a great idea. It's a treatable sickness but it is IMPERATIVE that it is caught early..
