| HELP! Emma ate part of a leather belt! Should I make her throw up, or try and see if it passes? I think she chewed up and swallowed 2" or so of DH's leather belt!!!

| I think I would just let her pass it. I would be afraid of her choking on it if you made her throw it up

| Take her to the vet ASAP Read this and then go for Xray her intestine can start to die within hours. I had a dog eat a rug while my mom was in the hospital and we did have two surgeries done but they were not done in time due to me being at the hospital I lost him. I hurt to the core of my heart every day over this. If only someone would have been here and known and took him ASAP. Please take her immeadiately Intestinal Blockage: Also known as a bowel obstruction, or blocked bowel, an intestinal blockage is most often caused by a gastrointestinal foreign body (your dog swallowed something he shouldn't have). Other causes may be intussusception - (the bowel folding in on itself), hernias, tumours and adhesions from abdominal surgery. A partial blockage in the intestines will produce intermittent symptoms, of vomiting, diarrhea, and cramping. A complete blockage will produce severe and sudden abdominal pain, violent, possibly projectile vomiting. The vomited material may consist of fecal-like matter, if the blockage is located in the lower GI tract, along with distention of the abdomen. If the blockage interferes with the flow of blood to the bowel, intestinal strangulation will occur, and the bowel will start to rot within a few hours. Abdominal x-rays are needed to properly diagnose the cause of distress and locate the blockage. Surgical removal of the blockage is required immediately, and the rotting bowel must be resected to the living bowel. Deana Prestigeous Yorkies |

| Thank you all for your help. I think she's going to be ok... here's the update...we realized it was only about 1" of belt. It wasn't a dress belt, where the leather is shiny and around the outside with something else in the middle to stablize it-it was the pressed type of leather, kind of a rustic looking casual belt. It crumbled into bits as she chewed it-so she couldn't have eaten all of it in one piece. There was no metal on the end she was chewing, thank goodness. We're going to keep an eye on her, and see if she passes it-my guess is that she will. This type of leather is pretty much the same thing as rawhide, and before we knew any better, we used to give her that, and she was just fine. She's acting normal, so I'm going to give her some bran flakes to make her stool softer when she is ready to poo, as well as some yogurt to keep things moving. If anything seems strange, she'll be going to the vet for sure! Thanks again for all your help!

| Me too! We gave her some bran cereal, and later some yogurt and blueberries, thinking the bran would help move things along and that the yogurt and berries would aid in digestion. Now we're just sittin' here, waiting for a poop
