These laws all depend on the state. The health dept. is probably checking the dead dog for rabies right now (they need brain tissue to do so). If the dog did not have rabies then there is a higher chance her dogs will be released. If the dog did have rabies then hopefully your friends dogs were vaccinated and after watching for symptoms and these two dogs not getting any, they could be released.

So it could be a problem of them being bitchy and pmsing...shoot they are little women, could be an alpha situation that turned nasty and the pack mentality got going and they both hurt the other dog.

wow that is sad...i know i have a full family of furkids...and at first they do act a little territorial towards other dogs and strangers but after some time they do let down their guards once they know its ok....so should i not let htme around other dogs just for that sake...thanks!

what do you mean? run with? she really didn't give me much detail either...all I know is that she suspects her 2 dogs may have killed and eaten another small dog. from what she describe as to the sight she seen on the other dog she was traumatized by the sight of it.

I am afraid I might have offended you, and that was not my intent. When you asked if she should put the two down, I had so many questions running through my mind. If the Malt and the Yorkie "had escaped" and had met up with a pack of dogs, my asnwer would have been different that if the two had attacked and killed a dog that lived in the same house.

I have two females that hate each other and have to be kept separated 24/7.

Seeing dogs fight is a horrible experience. I know your friend is in pain, please tell her how sorry I am.

no you didn't offend me...i was just unsure what you meant...i think the dog that was killed was a dog that she had taken in since she seen it roaming around the neighborhood...but i am not sure...i may have it all confused myself...because the last time i spoke with her she told me that she found a small dog hanging around her house and she felt bad for it since it has been cold...and since she was unable to talk about it...i wasn't sure if it was the same dog that die...sorry for asking question about a situation i really don't have all the answers too...

I'm not sure if I completely understand the situation, but you mentioned that the dogs may have killed a stray that she took in and that the two dogs were in quarantine, right?

If her two dogs weren't up to date on their rabies shots and of course they wouldn't know if the stray was, there is a state law that requires that the dogs either be destroyed or quarantined for six months, then inoculated for rabies, watched for a month, then released. The owner has to pay for the cost of the quarantine so maybe that is why she is debating whether or not to put them down?

i am not totally sure of her situation. I was assuming it may have been the stray she took in. I have been trying to get a hold of her all day but she is not replying so I will keep trying. I think she is traumatized by the situation. And I pray she is ok.
