| Have you tried different variety's of dry food? Have you tried getting it wet and mushy? Have you tried canned food? It isn't a great food but, when all else fails I offer puppy ceasar. It is stinky and not rated great but when it comes to getting food in their belly they got nutso over it. I do believe we should feed our dogs the best food possible but when it comes to them not eating I find what they will eat and go from there. Also, don't underestimate the intelligence of your pup. He could very well be holding out and not eating the food because he wants the yummy treats instead. I would stop with the treats all together, or just offer a piece of dry kibble for a treat

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Well, first - what is it that you are willing to do long-term? Do you want to do kibble, canned, homecooking, raw...?

| Have you tried to add a little yogurt or cottage cheese? If the pup likes kibble, perhaps a good, holistic dog food would be best. |

| Is this just lack of appetite or are there other symptoms too?

| If this has been going on for more than maybe two days I would insist on a bile acid test, especially if this is out of the ordinary for your dog.

| My Sassy does not like rice so I use oatmeal. The following has been approved by my vet and she likes it a lot. I had trouble with her eating too. Not now. She is very healthy. I use all fresh veggies. Start with 1 carrot, cut into rounds. I boil them in water until almost done. (Put in enough water that will accomodate the other veggies you will be adding). Add 1 potato, cut into rounds about on third inch thick. Now add some uncooked green beans (cut into smaller pieces)and cook until all of these are done. Remove everything from water, but do not pour water out. I use a slotted spoon. Now add to water, yellow squash, green squash and brocolli, cooking until soft. Remove from water and now you can pour the water out. I put all of this in a plastic container (separated into individual groups) and they keep well in fridge. I generally cook enough for about three feedings. When she is ready to eat, I put a little one minute oatmeal into a small bowl with a little water and cook in microwave for 20 seconds. On a small plate I put two or three carrots, 4 or 5 green beans, one potato round, and one slice of each squash and one small brocolli floret. Sometimes, I use peas instead of green beans. I microwave it for 20 seconds. Using a fork, smash all the vegetables and add to the oatmeal. Add to this mixture either chicken, beef or lamb as cooked below: In a small pan, I spray a small amount of olive oil. In this I cook chicken breasts or beef strips, alternating so she doesn't get bored. Sometimes I use lamb. Never pork. It sounds like a lot of work, but it truuly isn't. Once you get the routine down, it's easy as can be. Just having it all there in the fridge makes it quick to put together. Whe it is time to feed her, I just put the veggies in the microwave for about 20 seconds. Then I put in the oatmeal. While it is cooking I smash the veggies. Mix it all together and then add some cubed meat. Voila! Last edited by sammiz; 01-16-2008 at 11:20 PM. |

| I am not sure how old Eddie is but if he is a bit younger, maybe he is teething and his teeth are hurting him a little and that may be why he doesnt want to eat much. |
