Secret raw reddish pink sore spots being scratched

Hi ya'll,

I ahven't beenhere in a while as I have been so busy working.

Today i came in from work and picked up my baby and he had a matted clump of hair under his left ear on the left side of his face.

I bathed him last nite, he was fine, fine this morn before work, fine at lunch time, then I come home to this. I cut the clump of hair out, had to it was matted so bad from scratching, put some corona salve on it and wrapped it in gauze and stretch tape, he did NOT like that so now his face is uncovered and his left front paw is wrapped so he can't scratch, he seems to finally be content with that. I changed his food slowly to nutro natural. I bathe him in tea tree oil or a natural flea product, but that doesn't help his scabs on his head, under his chin or on his back, the best thing that I have used so far is head and shoulders for humans. He keeps getting these teeny eeny ticks all over him, I don't know how to control that naturally unless I go with garlic.

Does anyone know if you can give colloidal silver to dogs. For humans it is considered a natural antibiotic and I used it last year in place of antibiotics on myself to get rid of bronchitis and walking pnuemonia. I had been sick with one thing after another for 6 weeks, finally searched on line, found colloidal silver, used it in a nebulizer for 3 days and was 100 percent okay and didn't have to spend 150 dollars in prescriptions. I still use it when I feel something coming on and the next day I am like brand new. I also heard you can use kyodophilus powder or any dophilus powder on your dogs food to eliminate bad bacteria and promote good bacteria, help with digestion, get rid of staph infections etc. It works for me and I used it on my cocker spaniel.

I am at a loss here, don't know what caused this scratching all of a sudden today. He has the scabby flaky skin, but no itching so far, he seems okay, playing as usual but he scratched hisself raw in 4 hours and a matted clump of hair. he's asleep on my lap now,

any one have any suggestions, I'm open to anything... I would prefer natural cures or holistic to medications and chemicals and prescriptions.. I want to treat the problem, not the symptom and I want a permanent cure, not one that I have to keep doing over and over with medication.

thanks a bunch,

bear bear's worried grammy and the rest of the crew

I had a hard time because I didn't know what alot of those things are - but have you checked him for FLEAS and TICKS ? Do you use Frontline Plus ? I don't know really what to say here except you said 'Bites" ....It sounds like what your using now Naturally isn't working - or something is causing an allergy. Has he seen the vet ?

I've never seen anything like what you described on my girls - but it sounds pretty bad for him - even if it's not itching - it could get infected.

Good luck.

Those teeny eensy ticks are called seed ticks and are almost invisible til they blow up. I don't know if you just do not want to use frontline or another flea/tick product because of holistic reasons or what but there is not enough garlic on the planet to keep these things off of him if he gets into them. If you have never had them on you you cannot imagine how itchy they are.
I have no idea if colloidial silver is ok for pets but I would really research it before you give it,some of the things that we can take are really dangerous to them. Good Luck,And I hope you find some thing to help soon.Dawn

Oh, boy! I feel so sorry for that little baby...

Look at this article and see if it isn't the same thing:

Yorkieusa,,I read the article and I am not sure what you mean. Chiggers get under the skin, fleas and ticks you can see but those seed ticks are awful. I did read where you are using an all natural shampoo for fleas but I think if it isn't doing the job and you are determined to go "natural" then try dawn dishwashing detergent to bathe him in. I really do not think it will kill ticks tho.
I understand why you don't want to put stuff on your pet but really i think Frontline is the way to go. I use the spray on my little one so I can control exactly how much she gets for her weight. It just isn't fair for them to be itchy all the time.

Default remedy

Tea Tree Oil worked when all the meds the vet could think of didn't on my Ivy. She got a hot spot and it went away, came back, went away...so Rini suggested TTO and it never came back.

Hello again everyone!!

Thank you so much for all of your replies. I found a website http://www.naturalcanine.com/ that I really like after alot of researching. I am very pleased so far with the results I am getting.

I have been feeding bear bear a control diet which consists of... and this is a direct quote that was emailed to me

"Hello - we provide the diet with the supplements when they are purchased, however the control diet is very simple. You can feed it for 2 weeks with no other supplements, then you need to begin to balance the diet with our herbal multivitamin. (this is the one thing you should purchase from us because it is herbal and has natural vitamins and will balance the diet.

Control diet

Rice and cottage cheese (low fat)

The basic ratio is 1 part cooked rice to 1 part cottage cheese (1-4% fat OK)

Do not feed ANY other kind of cheese.

So if he eats 1 cup per day of the current food, his meal would be 1/2 cup cooked rice and 1/2 cup cottage cheese.

Look for a cottage cheese with no preservatives (any organic brand from a health food store or Friendship brand sold in many regular markets)

After 2 weeks you need to begin adding other ingredients like chicken (cooked) and grated carrots. ONLY ADD 1 AT A TIME and wait 3 or 4 days before adding the other - this is important. You need to wait several days to make sure there is no reaction.

The final meal (after 2 weeks) would look like this:

1/2 cup rice (cooked)
1 small carrot finely grated into the rice when cooking
1/2 cup cooked chicken, chopped
1/2 teaspoon flax or 1 tsp olive oil
1 teaspoon Herbal Multivitamin

Our Skin and Itch Homeopathic remedy is excellent. If you can afford these 2 items, buy them.

Herbal Multivitamin
Skin and Itch Remedy"

I have been feeding him the control diet and also been adding colloidal silver, a bit of salt coz he is always licking my fingers and a bit of chopped garlic. I kept the corona salve on him constantly and I am bathing him in a combination of shampoo... natural chemisty de flea shampoo and Veterinary formula oatmeal and tea tree oil infuser. And giving a 1/4 of baby aspirin twice a day as I noticed he had a fever. His little forehead was so hot and when he licked me so was his little tongue, hot, not warm like usual... he is sooooooo much better. The bright pinkness is now normal color again and he has not been scratching at all.

I noticed one time when trying to put the corona salve on that his ear on the inside was red, so I thought, well, maybe it is an ear infection. I had some zymox-e med and have put that in every 12 hours and the redness in his ear is gone too.

He loves the rice and cottage cheese mixture with the salt and garlic and colloidal silver and you can tell he feels 100 percent better. The scabby / flaky skin has also lightened up. usually I bathe him and the next day it is back. it is a little flaky now, but the scabby bumps seem to be gone and he seems so much more content.

I was reading on one of the websites I came across how when you go natural that the puppy can seem to be worse or like it isn't working because all of the toxins are leaving the body. I got to thinking about that because 2 weeks ago I switche to the nutro natural food and i am thinking maybe that is part of it.

As I said though, I am following the control diet now mentioned above and bear bear seems to be more content and resting easier and not scratching.

I check him constantly now for those little seed ticks and get them off. The tea tree shampoo seems to work wonders for him.

The website I mentioned www.NaturalCanine.com has alot of helpful information. The one thing it talked about was "toxic dog syndrome" http://www.naturalcanine.com/html/toxic_dog.html

I read that and thought omg... sounds like bear bear... and I remember telling my daughter that bear bear didn't seem to have the scabby flaky skin until after the vet visit and getting shots, heart worm med etc.

I also checked out the site http://www.chrissystems.com/peace.htm that one of you suggested and that confirmed my decision to try the colloidal silver that I use. Thank you soooo much for giving me that website.

All in all, I am relieved to say the least, bear bear is resting peacefully, comfortably and is more content and symptoms have improved 100 percent it seems in just 2 days of this type of treatment.

Anyone else having these same problems, I would suggest both of these websites to look at and to find out information on what the chemicals are doing to our babies. It even has formulas for flea and tick... it's a great site well worth checking out.

thanks again ya'll,
hugs
bear bears grammy and the rest of the gang

oh ya, one more thing, spring water

I have also stopped feeding water out of the faucet and as suggested on one site i visited, I am now using bottled spring water. I get it at wal-mart for 58 cents a gallon. I don't know if that is making a difference or not, all i know is bear is much better in just a couple of days.

bear is feeling much better, thankyou. he still tries to scratch it a little, but i say no and he quits. I had to leave him alone today when I went to work and I worried all day long, but he seems to be doing much better, was out playing in the rain just now with the other 2 and they all came in hyped up to the max. I'm going to give them all a bath in a few minutes and then the race will be on again...

I don't know where you live but in our area those tiny ticks probably would be DEER ticks the carriers of Lyme Disease. Your discription fits them to a T..Tick bites do itch someting fierce so with the fact that they could get a tick-borne disease, and they could be allergic to tick sputum, I would suggest you use a repellent like Frontline--That is my choice for my 7..
