| Very Ill dog... any advice greatly appreciated Hi there, I have a two year old yorkshire terrier, Thatcher. He is 7 1/2 lbs. Every 2-3 months he gets violently ill. He usually gives no warning and just starts to throw up. It usually occurs every half hour and then eventually diarrhea begins also. He has had at least 5 overnight visits to the vet hospital costing anywhere from $950 - $1600 per trip. He is so dehydrated by the time he gets to the vet that he always goes on IV. He is not allowed human food but occassionally grabs something. Usually this doesn't bother him. He has also had pure blood vomitted up too during these violent illnesses. There have been no signs of poison or ingestion of a toy or other object. I've seen a specialist for ultrasound but he has no clue. They have ruled out a few deseases but nothing solid yet. Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated. Kind regards, Thatcher's Mom |

| Oh boy, that doesn't sound good at all. Can you go for a second opinion, or have you done that already? |

| I would do bile acid testing if the vet hasn't found anything yet.

| When did it start? Have you moved? Chemicals around? Changed food or medicine (flea application, heartworm, etc) to see if it stops? Does he get into mischief ... This sounds awful ... |

| You might want to do some research on HGE(Hemorrhagic GastroEnteritis) if that hasn't been ruled out and see if it fits your dogs symptoms. Good Luck with everything. |

| Don't have any advice, but wanted to welcome you, and let you know you've come to the right place for info. Some of these YT'rs just amaze me! Hope little Thatcher feels better quick!

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Oh my gosh, I just can't think of anything to cause such a violent attack. Have they "xrayed" or looked at the throat itself?

Donating YT 30K Club Member | My pom gets sick, vomiting and diahrrea frequently. The vet gave me medicine to help her. She has colitis on top of some other serious illnesses and if she misses her meds for a day she has diahrrea and vomiting and won't eat. Have they done bloodwork to check liver and kidneys? Do you keep him on the same diet all the time? I hope you can find out and get him better.
