| Adverse reaction to Fetanol Patch My poor Cosmo broke his leg and needs and plate in order to correct it. However, now surgery is impossible until Sunday becuase he is very ill from the fetanol patch put on him for the pain. Tonight the vet said he made not make it through the night he is so weak. Please pray for us, he is 9 months and we hav him since he was 8 weeks. He is our baby...

| Thank you Thank you so much...we were supposed to bring home his little brother Saturday but due to his condition I just can't plus it would be unfair to him. I don't want him to think he is getting replaced becuase he is sick. Plus if it takes a turn for the worse I will be a wreck. I have to call the breeder in the morning and tell her it will be Tuesday at the earliest. Has anyone else had complications with their yorkie on pain meds?

| fentanyl patch Yes, fentanyl is a strong narcotic. When my T.J. had surgery last June he had a patch. After the surgery he couldn't eat. He spent a week in the hospital and then I decided to bring him hom to die. When he got home I took off his patch and within 2 days he was eating and keeping everything down again. He has gained back the 2 pounds he lost. (25% of his weight) and is doing fine. His time is probably very limited becaue of the type of cancer he had. They gave him a year at most, but right now he's doing well. |

| Fentanyl is such a strong narcotic!!! I just can't believe the way vets prescribe these patches for yorkies I have seen too many yorkies have problems with this patch... I will be praying for your baby!!! I really hope they took that patch off.

| I don't have any experience using this for tiny dogs!! BUT my mom came home from the hospital with the patch(es) and in two days she was unresponsive and we had to call the paramedics. Turns out she overdosed on the patch being used as prescribed by the doctor!! She was in bad shape for a couple of days until the medicine was out of her system. An extra word of caution.... when changing the patch never use warm water to clean the area, it speeds any absorption of any that is left in the residue. It's dangerous stuff. I am praying for Cosmo.

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | A fentanyl patch is dosed by weight and dogs under 7 pounds should not have one. it is just too much medication for them. we sometimes don't even use them for dogs under ten pounds depending on their body frame.

| My maltese had a horrible reaction to the patch. Phoebi did a bit better but not much. I'm sorry and hope your baby recovers quickly.

| Cosmo is recovering! Thanks to all your prayers! I have WONDERFUL news! First I want to thank all of you for your prayers and feedback. I printed out this thread and took it to the emergency clinic that placed the patch on my 5.9 lb little Cosmo along with a letter from my vet. The patch was placed on Cosmo Thursday evening around 10pm and by 3:30pm Friday Cosmo was not eating, drinking or responding. His normal Vet, Dr. Singh had me bring him right away and removed the patch, then shaved and iced the area. He also have him fluids and medicine that was supposed to keep Cosmo from vomiting. In less than 1 day Cosmo weighed 4.1 lbs. My vet then sent him home with us, even though he felt strongly Cosmo would not make it through the night he had done all he could and said Cosmo would be comforted by us which would give him the strength to fight his weakness. Saturday the vet kept him and put him on an IV in order to hydrate Cosmo and flush the poisen out of his system. Well, thanks to his quick response and tender care Cosmo is back to himself and was well enough Monday to have the plate put in his leg. Cosmo is on a very mild pain medication that I give him and his wound has no swelling or infection. Being a new yorkie owner and having gone through this horrible ordeal I URGE all of you to NOT let any vet put this fetanol patch on your puppy. This bread is so winderful and smart and loving, hovever this medication is too strong and many vets have no experience with this tiny breed. Even my vet said he learned a lot from Cosmo and his reaction (even though that darn emergency hospital placted the patch!) Also, get it put on your puppy's records so that is you have to take your puppy to another vet in case of emergency they know. My vet placed it on Cosmo's records for me. Thank you again for everything! Merry Christmas to all of you. Due to my vet bill my husband and I are not exchanging gifts, however having Cosmo with us this season it the best gift we could EVER ask for!

| The same exact symtoms that Cosmo had and your are right once removed and put on an IV he began to improve. I am so glad to hear your mom also improved. As worried as I was over Cosmo I can't imagine if it had been my own mother or child.
