| Enlarged or Dilated Windpipe I just got back from the vet w/Tahoe. While we are awaiting the radiologists evaluation of the xrays, the vet expressed concern about what appears to be any enlarged windpipe. He said the lower trachea looks okay, but the windpipe leading to the trachea is dilated (therefore NOT a collapsed trachea). Has anybody heard of such a condition? Unlike a collapsed trachea, i cannot find anything about it on google.

Megaesophagus is a condition in dogs where peristalsis fails to occur properly and the esophagus is enlarged. Normally, when the dog's esophagus is functioning properly, it acts as a muscle and pushes the food down the esophagus into the stomach. However, when a dog has megaesophagus, the esophagus stays enlarged and does not push the food down to the stomach. Therefore, the food fails to enter the stomach and often stays in the esophagus, and is eventually regurgitated. If so I believe Mom2babynatalie has experience w/ it. I'm not positive though.
