| Corky has large lump on his side- like a large olive Goodness, Yorkie talk is so great. Always helpful. I've just spent the past two hours in tears after finding a large lump on Corky's right side just in front of his right hind leg slightly below his rib cage. It was already late here in Paris so I rang the vet and they said if he wasn't in obvious pain I could bring him in the morning. He was PERFECT just 4 days ago and we went to the vet to get him a vaccine shot for Kennel cough (which is contraindicated for delivery via the nasal passages now). Anyway, after reading about Parkers experience in getting a lump following a shot, I'm wondering...but this is such a LARGE lump. Otherwise he is in perfect health...running, eating, drinking, peeing etc all normally. It came up in under four days. I think it is exactly where he got the shot. I'm so scared because he is 13 years old and anesthesia is tricky on a youg yorkie let alone one so old. My poor baby. What do ya'll think? |

| you said it is right where he got his shot? or at least in the general area?? then i wouldn't worry about it.. Layla gets her shots (in between her shoulder blade) and both sides of her shoulders swell up and get kinda hard.... it takes up to a month for hers to go down. you can put a warm compress on the area to bring the blood up to it to help bring down the swelling. |

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | if its in the same location that the vaccine was given then i bet that's what the lump is. watch it for a few days to make sure its not getting any bigger. if it does then i'd bring him in. Or if it doesnt go away in a month i'd bring him in to check it out.

| Corky went to the Vet in Paris Thanks for your replies. I took Corky (aka Beau Beau) to the vet this morning. She is pretty certain that it WAS a reaction to a chemical in the kennel cough SHOT. I know it can be administered through the nose and I'd requested that but the doctor had convinced me that the shot is better at getting all the vaccine in him as often the dogs sneeze out a lot of the vaccine. Corky does sneeze alot too. However, the doctor was concerned by the large size of the lump. She prescribed some antibiotic to help in case of any infection from the shot location, she took a sample of the lump (pretty much fat cells and a little puss). She wants to see him again Friday morning and if the lump isn't any smaller, plan an operation to remove it. I'm with you guys that if it isn't painful or obviously causing him a problem, maybe waiting around a month to see if it goes down on its own. What do you all think? |

| I'm glad your Corky is ok. Lot's of dogs seem to have reactions to different shots leaving them with the same kind of lump for a couple of days. Glad things had a happy ending for you. |

| I'd let the vet take a look. He could be a bite or a reaction from his shot. Don't worry the vet will fix him up. Hope he's better soon.
