Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | Unleashed dog parks? The unleashed dog areas in our city are nothing more than areas where dogs are allowed to go unleashed. There are no fences, nothing to separate unleashed dogs from walkers, joggers, cyclists, etc. In fact, we have no areas where there are fenced-off places for dogs only. I'm just wondering if that's common elsewhere.

| My favourite dog park has a motorway running along one side - thankfully there's a fairly steep river stop-bank between the walking track and motorway. The furkids have never gone near the motorway. I used to live in Wellington City where the dog parks are pretty much scrap bits of land that the Council doesn't have any other use for - I exaggerate there are one or two nice spots - and half a sandy beach. But in the Hutt City (20km up the motorway from Wellington) where I live now there's the entire river banks between the river and the stop bank is totally dog friendly - you can walk and walk and walk! But I have to dodge joggers and cyclists. I've told off a few people on trail bikes cos there's no motorised bikes allowed. But the rule is if you can't control your dog off lead you can't let them off lead, so if anything happens it is considered the dog and dog owner's fault no matter the circumstances. This is why I alway have treats handy in case Dougal takes a dislike to a jogger - which he has been known to do. I figure it's all good socialisation and 90% of the cyclists and joggers understand that they are in an off-leash area and act accordingly.

I've started having to put the Wee on the lead when we're going up to dogs because she's taken to barking ferociously and I can't STAND the noise. But she's a perfect angel on lead - if I get so much as a muted "grr-uff" I do a U-turn and walk away. Dougal does fine with most dogs, as long as they submit - if they run he runs after them barking. I've made many a bull mastiff owner laugh that their big tough dog would be running away from a fuzz bag like the Dougal. If blokes want an insanely tough dog - they soooo need a yorkie!

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | all the dog parks i take morgan too are fenced in and they have a big dog / small dog area. however even the small dogs are big dogs compared to morgan. she loves to play but some of the dogs are just insane and the owners cant control them. I worry when i see certain breeds because i know they are high strung and will stomp all over her. Morgan doesn't run away when a dog runs at her unless they are playing. She will go belly up and hope for the best

| There's actually a rule in our fenced in dog park that they MUST be off leash once inside the fence. I was scared to let Sadie off leash the first time because she runs from me & I thought I'd never be able to get her to leave, but she actually came running right up to me when it was time to go!

| We actually have several dog parks. There is a new one going in too! (one of car dealerships that is dog friendly is putting it in on part of there property). They are all fenced with an entry gate to take the dogs leash off and then go into the big dog or little dog areas. Katy usually goes into the big dog area, unless there is a bad dog there. But most of the dogs are very well behaved. Katy loves to play with them all. I know it scares the big dog owners sometimes, but Katy can hold her own. I have to tell her to mind her manners, she tries to get high enough to see their face and winds up bringing her paws down on their nose. |

| We just got a dog park a few months ago in my area. It is fenced and divided into large dogs and small dogs. We haven't used it yet since Chase has just recently reached the age requirement and I've been trying to make sure he will come when called. We will soon see how that works out . |

| LOVE the fenced dog parks We have fenced in dog parks here, some even have runs for small dogs only. Although Trixie prefers to hang with the big dogs

| We have them here but I won't use them. Call me paranoid but I'm afraid my little ones may pick something up from the other dogs. Not all dogs are up to date on their vaccines and with all the parvo going around.... no thanks... JMHO |

| Within 20 minutes of our town there are 4 dog parks. My favorite one has a separate area for small dogs, benches, shade and bathrooms for people. (water fountains too) It's a great park.
