Default Size or personality?

I'll be honest. I think a big part of the reason I'm a Yorkie fanatic is because they are so tiny, they require extra care. They need me. But I'm also in love with their personality. Hence, this poll. Be honest.

The reason I fell in love with yorkies was not because of size or personality. It was the way they look. They are so unique and so beautiful and I first fell in love with them for that. I loved watching dog shows with handlers that had yorkies with such beautiful long flowing coats. Yes I do love their size, but their are alot of other toy breeds that are the same size.

After owning a yorkie, I have really come to love their one of a kind personalities. I still love them for the yorkie standard look, hence why I keep mine in full coats, and I still love them for their size but their personality overall wins, I couldn't imagine them any other way. So to answer your question, their personality wins over all else!!

Great answer, and better thought out than my question! I meant that the "look" would be identical. They would just be 50 pounds.

I, too, wanted a 'lap dog'. I was first attracted to their looks; but, I've always loved the spunk and personality of terriers, in general.

We have enjoyed being 'owned' by a 25lb-er for 12 years, so we knew we wanted our next addition to be a bit smaller. So, "no".....probably even if they had the same over-all appearance, I wouldn't opt for a 50lb Yorkie, because I wouldn't opt for a 50lb dog.

I had my first encounter with a yorkie while working front desk at a local hotel. The guest entered the lobby with this little dog on a leash. Suffice it to say this dog OWNED that guest, the hotel, and other guests in a matter of seconds. Later this guest had me hold the yorkie while she got a bagel from our breakfast bar. The love of the breed started right then and there for me.

It was the whole package that mesmerized me. He was so small, but didn't know it, so adorable, but DID know that. I had never been a dog person before that day. I think if he had been a bigger dog, he would not have had the same affect on me. So, I would say size does matter, after a certain point. You know, one that is say up to 10-15lbs would probably still be okay, but beyond that it wouldn't be the same dog to me.

I live in an apartment so size definitely played a part in my wanting a yorkie - there are lots of toy breeds though and yorkies won hands down when it came to making a decision. They have the best personalities and are absolutely gorgeous. AND, they don't shed - HELLO? Could there BE a more perfect dog???

yes.....Abbie thinks she's a German Shephard in a 6lb body. And, when people comment: "aaaaawww.....what a pretty little dog!" I have to respond: "Yeah....and, she KNOWS it!"

Size and appearance are why I chose my Yorkies -- personality is what made me love them! No, I would have to pass on a 50 pounder. Now if they were 10 pounds, 15 and maybe even 20, they would still win me over. But at 50 pounds I would not be able to treat them the same without breaking my back.

I fell in love with the "look" of the Yorkie. For me, that also has to do with them being small because they always look like a puppy, even with a full coat.

I also love the personality of them, so when you put the two together it is just a WIN-WIN combination!!!!!!!

I've always been a fan of terriers, I grew up with schnauzers. Then my first "lap dog" was tiny little shihtzu (7 lbs full grown and soaking wet). When she passed, I wanted the best of both worlds. The tiny dog and the terrier personality. The yorkie fits that bill!

I love Grayson personality it fits so well with this family, but it's a catch 22 as I like his size that fits with us as well.

But I wouldn't trade him for anything

Ummm.....that's a toughy!!

Mojo's personality won me over, that is why I picked this little guy over the others there.

BUT, I first looked at Yorkies because I thought they were the most beautiful (sooo cute) dogs that I had ever seen. That face, the colors, those eyes....mmmm....mmmmm!!!

I think size played a part in it too because I had always had HUGE dogs and wanted something small........the size is perfect for me....Mojo is 5lbs, but I would go up in size, maybe not up to 50lbs.....I couldn't carry him and he couldn't lay on my neck w/o killing me! HA!

So, I would say size and personality......but I don't think I would go for a 50 pounder.....and that is because I have 3 dogs between 60-100lbs right now...and want a snuggle-bug...........

Okay, if Mojo ever got to 50lbs (yes, I know that would be impossible) I would still love him nontheless!

If I was going to get a "bigger" dog, it would be an australian shepherd but most likely a miniature one. I love the yorkie cause he's so tiny and so cute! I think if he were bigger, he would lose a little of the cuteness and if he were bigger he would be like a bull in a china shop with his personality.

50lbs I will still love the breed but no, I wouldn't own one. I love any dogs I am that crazy but I wouldn't own one that is too too big. I am very scared of big dogs. The largest dog I have own is about 10kg (22lbs) which is a medium sized and with that I have a hard time walking him when he drags me around. Anything bigger than that is no no for me plus Siu Pao is 7 pounds now and when I carry him in his carrier bag in the mall, I feel my shoulder hurting so much after half an hour.

In short, I will still love the yorkie breed no matter how big they are but to own one that suits myself is another matter.

I also fell in love with the yorkie breed because of their beautiful looks and their size. And of course their personality just won me over! But I wouldn't own one that weighed 50 lbs. My first two were standards (6-7 lbs), and I used to wish they were bigger because I felt they were fragile and worried they'd get injured or stepped on. My two now are 8 and 12lbs, and I think that's about perfect. They're still small, but not too fragile. As much as I adore the breed, I think over 25 lbs would be too big.
