Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | Big dogs and Yorkies At obedience school, most big dogs ignore Eddie altogether, like he's just a nuissance. Occasionally, we'll run across a big dog that loves Eddie and plays nice. Tonight, Eddie chased away a big dog who was in our yard -- and the big dog ran! I'm just wondering if your dogs, in general, get any respect from big dogs.

| My daughter has big dogs and they get along ok, but they run away if the big guys get to playing. There are big dogs at obedience class and they do fine with them but everyone is on a leash. |

| I envy those of you who do not have a problem. I have socialized Buddy from day 1 so I would not have these problems. He does have large dogs as play buddies, a pit bull, boxer, a sharpae, and beagles, but when he sees a large dog he does not know he turns into a holy aggressive crazed animal! I said I would never allow this to happen again, having a terrior mix before Buddy and I had to hide behind trees and cars when I saw a dog coming our way because of the reaction. I have no idea why. Is he protecting me or his territory? Any help would be appriciated. He has gotten alittle better but not much. I was thinking about clicker training on this problem. Other than that he is perfect and loving. It is driving me crazy. If you could just see him you would not believe it! |

| Oh my gosh! My two are OBSESSED with big dogs! They LOVE them!!!!!! Everytime we see a big dog, Hootie and Hobbs go crazy and want to play with it. The breeder whom I got them from bred yorkies and great danes, so Hootie and Hobbs were literally born next to a great dane! I think because of this, they think they are big dogs themselves. |

| Scruffles’ best friend is Yoda, a female Rottweiler who lives in my townhome complex. They play together and Scruffles jumps all over her and gives her kisses. Yoday is an old girl and very gentle. Otherwise, we get no respect. I see so many people in my community with the meanest labs I’ve every seen and they bark and snarl at Scruffles out their window. Maybe this is because their owners keep them locked up all day and barely walk them!!! I was minding my own business while walking Scruffles one day. I saw a lady across the street walking her yellow lab, so I said hello. I was just trying to be neighborly. Instead of saying hello back, in a snotty tone she stated that her lab does not like little ones and she walked away. No hello to me or anything else. This rubbed me the wrong way. |

| I have found that depending on what the big dog is bred for determines there personality towards small dogs. So far Logan has played well with any great dane, boxer, heeler, collie, or st. bernard we have come across. However, we have not had good luck with huskies or vislas. Retrievers & labs seem to be hit or miss. I think that if a dog is bred for hunting they think the little dog is something to hunt & kill rather than play with. Logan plays well with my mom's weimereiner, but I would imagine this is only because she was just a pup when she met Logan & they grew up together.

| Katy doesn't have an enemy. She loves to pay with all the dogs at the dog park and at day care. She is a social butterfly. She makes sure to greet each and every one. It is funny when we go past the horse ranch. She wants to get out an play (She thinks they are big dogs). Of course I would never let that happen. But it really is funny to watch here run around the park with the great danes. |

| Mine all love all dogs, small or big. They just love everyone and have no problems playing with the big dogs. They have no fear of big dogs as they are socialized around them starting when they are young. The big dogs they have met know that they have to be careful with them because they are so much smaller. The only thing I have to keep an eye on is when they are running. Mine love love to run and will get the big dogs to chase them. I just have to watch them to make sure the big dogs don't trip over them and hurt them while they run after them. My mom's border collie is 60+ pounds and Destiny is only 4 pounds, it is so funny watching Destiny jump up to play with Daisy. Daisy has even learned to lay down and play with them because she is alot taller then them and can't reach her otherwise. She also learned to watch where she steps to make sure she does not step on them. She is just a big gentle baby. Like I said, the only thing we have to watch for is when they are running.

| Roxy tries to pay NO attention and just goes about with whatever she is doing. I don't think she cares one way or another, but seems to prefer 'her own alone time'. TJ cries and cries over any animal. He is such a baby...BUT we have just recently brought him around 'big' dogs and he doesn't like them! The first 'big' dog, she is very friendly and was doing her thing...sniffing...well, TJ DID NOT LIKE having a 'big' dog sniffing him, I think she may have licked his (private) and that was it, HE DIDN'T LIKE THAT AT ALL! This past Sunday we were at a friends farm, he was chasing the chickens and ducks, but when our friend brought out her 1 yr. old male Lab and he is just a big goof, he started to sniff TJ and TJ just kept backing away and trying to do his own thing...but the Lab just kept trying to play (and sniff TJ)...FINALLY TJ had enough and he snapped at him...So I don't think TJ really cares for Big Dogs. I think, he would tolerate being in the same place, but would rather not be in direct contact...and definatley NO LICKING or SNIFFING the Private (P) |

| Trixie is fine sniffing big dogs. If they start playing, she gets scared. She's tumbled quite a few times shen the big dogs try to play with her. Now she doesn't like it anymore! Unless it's a big dog that's very careful and used to being around small dogs.
