| More than 1??? Okay, I have one yorkie, Cooper, he is 7 months old. Really thinking I want another one,...maybe can talk husband into it. Still have some hesitations though. So for all of you that started with one and then got that second..do you regret it..is it great, should'a done it sooner...please be as truthful as possible, and if you still would have done it...but some of the bad things about it...could you say that too? Thanks

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I had a 8 year old Pom when I got Cali and I wish I had done it years ago. Even though it's not 2 yorkies I love having 2 dogs. I have always had Yorkies but only 1 at a time. I am thinking of getting a third if the right one comes along. I love seeing 2 facs at the door when I come in, I love seeing them lay togther and chase after the same bone. The only down side is the expense of vet bills are greater. When Cali is scared she walks as close as she can to Maya. Cooper is at a great age to add a new one, they can play together and he can help train him or her.

| Hobbs was 9 months old when we got Hootie only 4 weeks ago! It took about a week for Hobbs to get used to her, but now they are best buds! They love playing together, and I love snuggling with both of them at night! Of course the initial vet bills and potty training sux, but I am SOOOO happy we got Hootie! The only thing I would recommend would be to wait until Cooper is fully potty trained before you get another one. I think it is really helping Hootie to see Hobbs potty outside. She is getting the hang of it! |

| Thanks guys for your responses. I appreciate it!! Let me give you a little background. I got Cooper because my youngest son is leaving for college and having moved to Wa from Texas, I am away from my family and friends. I have always wanted a yorkie (love those little faces) but heard they were hard to potty train, and we travel back and forth from Wa to Tx alot, and we didn't want to be tied down. Anyway long story (trying to make it short) I saw a friends maltese and thought I really really want a puppy. So, husband said do want you want, I don't think it is a good idea though. Then he goes out of town, and I just happen to see a yorkie for sale with a face to die for. My son drives me to see him and the whole way I am saying "I think I am making a mistake, I hope this is not a mistake". Well, of course it was love at first sight and I have never ever once regretted, not even a little. Husband fell in love too...we wonder what we talked about before the Coop came along. We are both totally obsessed with this little stinker!! Anyway, so Cooper was really easily potty trained, he sleeps when we sleep..I can sleep as late as I want, he will take naps if you want too, he just all around perfect to us. So now I have the bug and want another, but I worry I am messing with perfection. Maybe another won't be so easy to potty train, maybe they won't like each other, maybe it will be too much of a hassle altogether. Cooper is used to a LOT of attention, what if he is jealous? He doesn't like us to be around other dogs and pet them. Other dogs are not his fav...but he was playing so good with a little girl Jack Russel down the street just a couple days ago. They had sooo much fun together, which kinda got me thinking that Cooper would have a playmate and I would have two bundles of joy!!! The last issue is come August I will have one son in Texas at college and one in CA in college and I will want to visit them. I have flown with Cooper on planes 3 times...he is a pretty good traveler, but 2 might be too much. So, hence the poll. Thanks for listening to my long winded story and thanks for the advice.

| I have four and got them all at different times, I don't regret a single one. They are all different in looks, personality, but they all love us and we love them.

Your story sounds EXACTLY like what I went through before I got my second yorkie. My husband and I got married in August 2005, which caused me to move away from my family and friends bc of his career. He works ALOT (80 hours a week), so I was feeling lonely and wanted a dog to keep me company while he was away. My hubby is definately a big dog person, so he said it didn't sound like a good idea that we get a yorkie but that I should do whatever I wanted bc I was going to be the one taking care of it. So, I got Hobbs in December. My hubby fell in love with Hobbs, too. Hobbs was perfect for us. So laid back, easy to potty train, sleeps when we sleep, etc. Hobbs also LOVES to play with my sister's yorkie, Sophie. So after we got Hobbs potty trained and saw how much he liked Sophie, I started wanting another yorkie myself. My hubby said that as long as we could afford it that I could do whatever. Like you, I really really worried about messing up what we already had. I worried that I would not love the second yorkie as much as I love Hobbs. But I figured that if we were going to get another dog, that I wanted one as much like Hobbs as possible. So, naturally we figured that we should get another one from the same parents as Hobbs. So, we called the breeder and Hobbs' same parents happened to be prego again with another litter. Still feeling apprehensive, we got Hootie about a month ago. I will tell you that it took Hobbs about a week to adjust to the new addition, but now they are IN LOVE with each other! AND I have realized that the love I have for my dogs is MULTIPLIED, not DIVIDED! I love Hootie as much as Hobbs...and she is SO much like Hobbs...laid back, smart, etc. It has really helped her to see Hobbs potty outside, etc, bc she is getting the hang of it really quickly. So, I have no regrets whatsoever. I am SO happy I got Hootie. My family lives out of town, too, and I just put Hootie and Hobbs together in the same carrier whenever we go places. They love each other and love to keep each other company in the carrier, so it really isn't a big deal at all. Sorry my post is so long! Good luck with your decision. Let us know what you decide to do! | |
