Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | Sick? There have been a couple threads recently about Yorkies being sick, and it got me to wondering if Yorkies in general are prone to illness. Eddie is 2 and has never been sick. No diarreah. No fever. No cough. No sniffles. I hope I'm not jinxing myself, but I'm just wondering if I'm just lucky.

| My boy Harley (knock on wood) never been sick, now my little girl Haley has had problems before but seem to be doing fine now. I guess it just might be in there blood line, or a bad breeder. you never know until you take them cute little babies home and spend a fortune in vets bills. cause once you fall in love with them you have to take care of them. I did spend a lot on Haley she had a slit breathing problem but a change in her diet has worked so far.. I still take her for check ups. cause that's just the Mommy coming out in me.

| Josie has never been sick with a fever or anything. She just had a bad reaction to her vaccines once and she has an allergy to chicken which makes her itchy.

| Reuger's about a year old and he's gotten sick to his stomach a couple of times but I think that it was something he had eaten not an illness. I consider him to be pretty healthy. He got covered in ticks, and I mean covered, and I worried that he might get sick from that but so far I haven't seen any signs of any problems. We sure changed our flea and tick meds very quickly!!!

| Willy is 7 and the only thing he gets is about once a year he starts with diarrhea and gets a really sore bottom. So considering I dont think its too bad & I am getting to where I pretty much know what to do without having to vet him. Des |

| Tucker hasn't exactly been "sick" but he did have that benign tumor. Otherwise, he is a little tank! (with a cast iron stomach)

Donating YT 30K Club Member | All of my Yorkies have had health problems! I have had 4 and Cali has been the sickest and the smallest. part of it might be because she is so small I don't take chances and take her in for everything. My Gracie died at 6 1/2 from collapsed trachea. Other two lived to almost 13 but had mnor illnesses. My pet shop Pom my husband got has been the healthiest, but I have a theory on that, only the strong survive the puppy mills and she was one of the lucky ones and the pet store has a great reputation. I know 8 other dogs some in my family and all have been healthy. I just plan on having resources avaialable for vet bills when ever I get a dog. I will never not have a Yorkie and I know so much more now from being on YT that I will hopefully get my next one from a great Breeder.

| Sissy had an upper respiratory infection that took 4 weeks and two rounds of medication to cure. She was 13 weeks old at the time and became ill a few days after her bordetella vaccine.

| Ralphie has " nervous stomach"--when he gets stressed-- he gets diareah. and then I have to get him on medicine to clear it up. Like colitus -- he has to go on a bland diet or hamberger and rice..that seems to be his issue. But I am trying to get him over the things that get him stressed. like getting used to riding in the car and getting a bath.. both seem to set him off.

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | This was sort of a silly poll, because there are a lot of definitions for 'sick,' but it's kind of interesting to see it come out at about 50 percent sick, 50 percent not. That doesn't seem too bad for a breed. Patti, I'm curious: Did Gracie have the collapsed trachea her whole life or did it happen at 6 1/2?

| Mine have all been very healthy and none have been over 4 pounds. 1 out of 5 did have hypoglycemic episodes (pretty serious) as a puppy, but after 3 months no problems and then at 12 years old she was diagnosed with cushings disease. Any bouts of diarrhea were because I gave into begging and gave them something they really shouldn't have had. |
