| We always walk the boys with their leash and harness. Bad things can still happen no matter how well your dog behaves and if you don't have them on a leash the situation could get out of control very quickly. |

| i always walk mine with a leash. and it's not just to prevent them from getting into and after things he shouldn't. but it's not just to save him from himself, but it's also to save him from drivers who don't see him and can nearly clip even me while making a turn around a corner, people who don't see him and may kick him if they walk too close to me, and other big dogs who may not be as well behaved and thinks mine is a chew toy. i may trust him not to run off, but i can't strangers to not kick, step, or otherwise squash him. |

| For me it depends on where we're at. In places where there are cars or a few people, definitely a leash. So 85% of the time they are in their harness and on a leash. I think its great to let them run freely when they can. I'm in Southen California so yard space is really limited (I don't even have a yard). The two places we let them off leash is at my hubby's work and at my work where there a lot of space outside. '

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I have just started to walk Cali on her harness. I let her loose in our back yard with her harness and leash on with me right with her and she took off to the neighbors yard with me in hot pursuit! My pom will stay by me or with in our property lines. I want a fence so bad!!

| I walk Sully......on the treadmill! Haha http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25282 Seriously, he walks about a mile a day on the treadmill! We also walk him around the neighborhood (he goes jogging with me) and sometimes when I give history walking tours downtown (Charleston, SC) like today, he comes with me!

| I walk Trixie with leash ALL THE TIME! Even if it's just in the backyard. She's a good listener, except when her natural instincts kick in and she sees a squirrel or a rabbit. She'll chase them until she gets them.. and that could be miles away! I don't want to take the risk.

I Love Thor Donating Member | Thor walks on a leash (for his protection!) I wish he could play in the park with out a leash but he can be so unpredictalble and I don't want him to get gett his butt whooped by some other dog he starts stuff with. We are clicker training but I haven't done the 'come' thing with the clicker yet. Maybe some day he can be off of the leash in the park. When he was a puppy I trusted him off of the leash, but one day something clicked and he "started exploring father away from me" (ie running away! ) But he still LOVES his walks! |
