Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | When scared, does your Yorkie run to you or away from you? Eddie is a runner. If a sound scares him or something else unknown frightens him, he runs and hides. He usually wants nothing to do with me. Jillie, however, stunned me last night. In a stressful situation, she ran TO me. I love that about her. It shows trust. I was in the backyard at midnight putting my bicycle away and Jillie was sauntering around the backyard. Suddenly, a HUGE BOOM went off. It turned out it was a powerline transformer exploding nearby, but I was momentarily terrified. All of the sudden, I looked out and Jillie was tentatively walking toward me. She was obviously upset, but her reaction was to come to me. I coaxed her forward and picked her up. Inside the house, my wife said Eddie hopped off the bed and hid under it. Two dogs, two entirely different reactions. How would your dog react?

YT 2000 Club Member | I have two that would run straight for me every time. Then there is Jasmine.....she is my killer and doesn't have a fearful bone in her body. I don't care what she hears, however loud it is, day or night....she is the protector of the house and takes every noise around here personally and must find what caused it. I raised German Shepards while my children where still at home, but Jasmine is a much better guard dog than they were. I should have named her Radar!

| I don't know if he's scared or just anxious about a certain situation. He seems to go back and forth like he's letting me know he's protecting me |

| Some of mine run straight to me....some run and hide. Most will come to me if they have some kind of issue physically, that frightens them...like a twig caught in their hair, or a leaf caught in belly hair....or "dingle berries" caught in hair after pooing. |

| Because Cali is a service hearing dog she comes straight to me to take me to whatever made the noise. At that point she is very willing to kill whatever is there if need be (such as a hawk)

| Max and Teddy come to me when they are scared. One notable exception: thunderstorms. Teddy prefers to hide.

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | Interesting, the "norm" seems to be to come to us. I guess it depends on the situation. Years ago, a big dog came charging up on us and I had to drop the leashes while wrestling it, and Jillie ran most of the way home from the park. I had to go to her, she wouldn't come to me. And Eddie is doing better in thunderstorms. If I've been away, he'll come out from under the bed for comfort.

| Curri wants nothing to do with me if she is scared of, let's say, a storm! She goes in her cat cave or under the bed and won't come out. Sugar will claw her way to me and up me and force me to hold her if she is having a panic attack. She is severely frightened of the smoke alarm or anything that sounds similar to that beeping. We have construction behind us now. The trucks are driving her batty. I keep a white noise machine on for her when I'm not home.

| Buster runs to me when scared, but if he hears a noise outside he runs to the door and barks. I worry about what he might do in an earthquake.

| ZoE definitely runs to me when she scared, and jumps on my lap if I'm sitting down, and tries to scramble up my leg and into my arms if I'm standing. But if I'm not close, any human lap is good for her. She has jumped on strangers laps to get away from other dogs....which is her main fear, ever since the neighbors dog escaped its yard and went after her. It saddens me.

| Piccolo runs to me if she is scared, Dixie runs away, and Vivi kind of freezes wherever she might be. Isn't it funny how dogs react differently?

| Pippi - runs into my arms if scared, she does a flying leap, which has nearly knocks me over. If she can't get to me, she then goes to any other family member. Thankfully she isn't scared of too much. Usually noises she doesn't recognize when we are outside, but once we say 'it's ok' she and Caleb calm down. She's not fazed by people, thunder or huge dogs. Caleb- our hero and protector, runs to me, then turns and grows, stands proud and edges forward, sometimes running back with a short whimper, then growl again. Once startled,I jumped and made a noise when something in another room fell and he went charging towards the sound growling furiously. He doesn't mind thunder either. He's not keen on dogs of any size coming near me or Pippi, though he'll say hi to them, 'til they step towards us...then he does a low growl. Pippi's a complete tart and he eventually shrugs and gives up protecting her honour and just guards mine. Ishmael(border collie)- hates thunder and once ran out of the house in a terrible storm. It was pitch black outside (back door came open) He was seen in the local farmers fields (farmer called round to tell us) My husband and daughter looked for hours for him. My daughter was crying in the road, soaked to the skin, cold, when she stopped by her car and prayed, as she did so she could hear whimpers coming from the other side of the hedge, she had to go into a field of cows that were surrounding the area near poor Ishmael. He was thankfully uninjured, but beyond terrified. Poor thing has to be with us, kept on his bed, wrapped up, with a shirt on, during storms. Nothing else seems to frighten him...if it did, he'd run blindly. Sorry for the ramble..
