Do You Keep Your Yorkie's Hair Long or Short? I usually let Otis' hair grow out in the wintertime, so he won't get cold easily. But at the first sign of warm weather, the buzzer comes out! I prefer to keep it short. He looks so much cuter with short hair!

I keep both of my Yorkies hair long. That is why I got these types of dogs in the first place. I don't care for Yorkies with a clip, but that is just my opinion. The hair doesn't make the dog so I guess it is totally up to the owners personal preference, and I prefer the standard, LONG!!!

Biggie Smalls is only 5 months-ish old, so I haven't had a great choice yet. I love the look of a really long-haired Yorkie, but I can't imagine how you keep them clean and groomed with long hair. That is my main pull to the short hair cut....I think they are ridiculously cute either way How often do you bathe your puppies? I am a clean freak and I have a hard time not bathing Biggie quite a bit. His skin seems really flaky though, and this concerns me. I'm not sure if it is the brutal Salt Lake City winter we are having, or frequent bathing, or a combo of both. Let me know what you think please.

Good coats... If your dog can go long and be comfortable, go for it..My dogs seem to be itchy at the beach so i buzzem in the summer and letem grow in the winter...Id love to have a show quality coat on either one...but I dont kid myself...Id rather have a clean shaven happy dog than a long scraggly, itchy one...if your dogs coat is worthy enough of growing out, do it...i would...

Coat Handler Shampoos. I already posted a link in another forum. It's great! Also, be sure to rinse rinse rinse! Also, at 5 months, isn't that about the time Yorkies lose their baby hair and grow in their adult hair??? I know Yorkies don't shed, and I'm not an expert on this, but I do remember the texture of Otis' hair changing around that time. I could be wrong. Any experts on this?? | |

I've never heard about puppies loosing their hair in exchange for a different coat. If so, I would like to hear about it though. I currently have a shampoo with oatmeal from a specialty pet shop here. It is organic, and it was $15.00! That is what I know about it

bettyanne: So Toto has long hair all over? His face is adorable! I brush Neesa about 20 minutes each day. When she was a baby, she hated it, but now she loves it. Little attention whore! (I don't mean that in a bad way at all!) Always loves to be brushed so she can be pretty. Kinda like her Mommy. :P

I bathe my girls once a week at least, sometimes twice. I brush them with a leave-in conditioner about twice a week (in between shampoos). I use baby shampoo, no tears, comes in all delightful fragrances. I "buzz" them myself, and after a few mistakes, they started coming out pretty good. I keep them rather short, because we live out in the country, and they would get all sorts of things in their hair.
