| Which weight would you prefer? I've never done a poll before What weight would you prefer for a Yorkie to be? I understand the standard is under 7 pounds, but I personally prefer the 8-13lb range. Just wondering what you all would prefer. Up until the 1930's, Yorkies often weighed up to 30lbs!

| Bailey is 6 lbs. - small, healthy and hearty. She can do the stairs and furniture without any help - but is still petite. She's perfect!!!

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I prefer the 4-7 pound range just because that's Joey's range, he's my first small dog, and he's set the standard for me! If I had children I think I would want a bigger Yorkie for sure, and I can see the appeal in those tinies, as well. I guess I love all sizes!

I agree! Riot's my only small dog and he's 4.5 lbs, and the next smallest dog I've had is 48lbs!

| I'm hoping Sophie will grow into the 5-7 lbs. range... but she's still only 2.6 lbs. at 26 weeks. :-( Of course, I'll love her no matter what size she is! But my last dog was an Akita who weighed over 100 lbs., and I grew up with an Afghan hound... so Sophie feels incredibly fragile to me. She's healthy and super active, but I'd still love for her to be a studier size so I feel like she would be safer! Last edited by mommyofsophie; 10-08-2009 at 06:31 PM. |

| I prefer the 4-7 pounders closely followed by 8 and maybe 9 pounders. The smaller ones are so fragile and the bigger ones are too heavy to carry around all day.

| i have a 4.5 lbs and 12 lbs. i love them both the same. the only reason why i would prefer the 4-7 lbs is because they are easier to carry around everywhere.

| Bailey is 3lbs at 6 months and I'm hoping he makes it to 5lbs, I'm a nervous wreck when there are people around, Bailey is always underfoot and I'm constantly saying "watch out for Bailey" I sound like a broken record, but he could get stepped on way to easily!

| I would prefer the 4 - 7 lbs for toting around and airplane travel. However, mine are both 10 lbers' and I love their size for just the everyday normal stuff. I guess what I really wish is they could stay the size they are, but I could fold them up and take them everywhere with me in my pocket

| this is a fun poll. except i don't know what i prefer. milu is small and i love her, so it would be odd for me to say that i prefer a bigger size. i guess i would say that it's nice for them to be a little bigger, because then you don't have to worry about them as much. BUT! if they are small, they are REALLY easy to go with you EVERYWHERE. i take her with me everywhere, and ppl don't even know she is in the baby sling or the purse. and i can carry her all day since she is so light.

milu does sit very quietly in the purse or baby sling. she used to like to pop her head out of the purse, but then i stopped taking her out with me. so i think she has realized that if she doesn't sit quietly in the bag, i won't take her with me anymore. (confession: i am very bad and i do take her to places she is not allowed...which is why it's very important that she does not pop her head out of the purse...) another thing that i did, which might have helped is that i take her for walks in the purse. because i always want to take her when i go for a walk with jer, but jer thinks it's a pain in the a$$ to walk with milu because she likes to stop every 2 seconds to sniff. so i would put her in the purse and walk. so i think that really got her used to sitting in the purse quietly. she does start moving around when i stop moving though. so if i am shopping, i have to keep moving lol, if i stop then milu thinks it's time for her to come out of the bag.
