Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | Does your Yorkie prefer people or dogs? Eddie is a people person. He gets excited around other dogs and tolerates most of them, but he doesn't really play with them. I don't know where I went wrong with his socialization. He prefers people. I started thinking about it at our little-dog meetup tonight. When each new dog arrived, Eddie was the first to greet them, all excited, tail wagging. But after a sniff or two, he ran right back to me. Then he'd make the rounds from person to person. He'd sniff another dog occasionally, but he never plays like all the other dogs do. In fact, he ended up getting in a tiff with a shih-tzu, the second such tiff with the same breed in a couple months. I'm just wondering if it's an Eddie thing or a Yorkie thing. Which do your Yorkies prefer, people or dogs?

| Well, I don't know if it's a Yorkie thing or just a Sapphire and Eddie thing. I swear they are soulmates! Sapphire does the exact same thing!!

| Layla is ALL About people- she just goes CRAZY- wags her tail- gets all low to the ground- can't decide if she wants to give them her front end or back end first... lol.... Layla is not crazy about other dogs- as long as they are calm she will tolerate them and sometimes she is happy to see the dog- again i don't know where i went wrong either! When she was a puppy she was around dogs a lot- and she goes to her sitters who has two dogs (who Layla just LOVES) but other dogs- she isn't crazy abou the. |

| mine prefer people also..they just love to give kisses and want to just play with people. they are okay with other dog..they just tolerate them but don't play much with other dogs. I tried my best to always socialize them with other dogs but they just prefer people over other dogs.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Mine like each other so I thought they would be more receptive to other yorkie visitors but really aren't.

| Mine will tolerate other dogs, but people are her favorite. She goes crazy whenever she sees people whether she knows them or not. She just loves the attention! |

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Well it depends... SOME dogs bella will like, some she will hate! mostly big dogs.. and the strangest thing is.. bella LOVES little kids but she cant stand OLDER overweight or tall people. Its very weird. i have had a couple of very tall friends over that were a little big bigger and she barks and growls!! Anyone else have this experience??

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | Hmm, just when I thought I had it figured out, I check these poll results and find that the overwhelming choice is "people." It was encouraging to see a healthy number saying both, however. A friend suggested that perhaps Eddie was taken from his mom and siblings too soon. It makes sense. We got him at about 10 weeks, perhaps less, from a person who got him from a breeder and discovered they were allergic to him. Presuming it took at least a couple weeks for them to discover the allergy and think about rehoming, it's likely that Eddie left his siblings before 8 weeks. Poor guy. But, then again, this poll seems to show it may be more of a breed thing. Interesting, though.

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | I dunno. In your videos, Sapphire seems to be playing with the other dogs much better than Eddie normally plays. She can be a little aggressive, but at least she seems to enjoy the interaction.

| My girl most definitely prefers any four legged over the two legged variety. Sure, she gets excited when someone comes home or visits. If you would play fetch with her, she'd do it forever. If you run with her, she will choose you over the new dog in sight after a brief moment of hesitation. However, on any normal given day, she'd choose to meet a new dog/cat/bird/squirrel over any human. Okay, the birds and squirrels might be for food but the dogs and cats are for play. I got her at 4.5 months. At the time, she was not the last of the litter to leave home. When I was there to meet/buy her, she was so preoccupied playing with her brother and mother, she barely had the patience to tolerate us humans handling her, keeping her from her playmates. I think the breeder had also been busier than usual with her life at that point during the developmental stages of my girl's life to have given her as much human attention as she should otherwise have done. Besides my girl's immediate biological family, she also had other dogs to play with. Once I brought her home, she was immediately attracted to my cat. Once the cat accepted her, she'd report to the cat on call 100% of the time--she would drop all that she was doing to run to the cat. We've never taught her the cat's name purposefully, but that was the first word she has learned from us and responded to without fail. The only odd thing is, during her puppy classes, she did not care to truly play with any of the other dogs. There were three others: a shih tzu, collie border-cross lab, and a smaller yorkie. When she would excitedly approach the very friendly and gentle giant of a collie-mix, she'd suddenly start cowering and trying to run from it when it approaches her to nudge her for play. She'd sometimes go over to check out the yorkie boy, but she'd lose interest and was more there to take a bite out of his treats than to socialize with him. But immediately afterwards, she'd show a lot more interest in the new dogs coming into the store and also outside during her walks. She'd want to do the pounce and play with them. |

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Nolee prefers people also! I does like dogs, but only for a little bit, then he is right in my lap! I guess it is because he is the only dog in the house??

| Barney is my little neurotic one...Likes no one other than me and sometimes my 2 yr old granddaughter...Does not like people or other animals if he had his choice....If I am not around he will literally go to his crate and lay on his bed til I get home..His choice again...Then when I am here, he is like velcro....Got him at 4 months..However the breeder's hubby was terribly ill and in and out of hospital and so he did not get the attention he would have normally....And she made me aware of this at the time I got him... Belle absolutely loves people.....Gets all excited and hyper...But does not want to be held....Just pet and play.....My little tomboy..lol...Got her at about 12.5 weeks...Raised in a home enviroment..Kids played with her all the time...But they were not allowed to pick her up...Think this is interesting in regards to her disposition Bevo loves everyone and everything...He thinks everyone and thing are here to see him and love him.....Since he was a tiny- he was given extra attention and it sooo shows..lol...Got him at 12 weeks...Would like to have waited a bit longer...But we are doing great Joyce
