My dad contracted brucellosis during WW2 from drinking unpasturized milk - or so the military thought. He sweat terribly the rest of his life, especially at night. A very waxy, weird sweat. At first he was hospitalized for 3 weeks, but then just the sweats.

Doesn't sound common in North America. If i traveled or had cows/horses/sheep that were'nt vaccinated, I would definitely test. I am having a general round of tests run on Luca Dean soon though -- Liver shunt, etc. -- the stuff that can be determined from bloodwork.

testing Pets are rarely effected. It is a virus passed from male to female/female to male during breeding...or contact with the vaginal secretions after whelping. All the breeding dogs I have had, I have never had a case of it, none of my close breeder friends either...the dogs msut be spay/neutered..it causes sterility. It is best for the breeder to ask for a test when a femael comes for stud service..if you do not breed your pet they are completely safe.

That is what I am running into. I am looking for stud service in my area and the breeders said they need this test to be done before breeding. So when Amber comes close to her second heat I will get it done. | |

Brucellosis testing........ I had my female yorkie tested after losing a litter that was born 12 days early. Fortunately, she tested negative and was fine in that respect. The vet could find nothing wrong with her at all in the examination and was perplexed as miscarriages are apparently uncommon in canines.
