I was unable to make the meet up this year due to airfare and fuel prices going way up, and hopefully they go down by next year so I can attend the meetup where ever it is.

I think I would try and fly for sure, I think its cheaper now since gas is so much anyways. Plus I have friend in california that I would love to visit and so if it the meetup is in Cali, I think I have a better chance of talking my husband into letting me go, and maybe even talking him into going with me

Honestly, I think the "plan" (middle, one coast, next coast) is a pretty good plan

The main reason I can't leave the east coast is that during the summer is my husband busy season and he can't really travel far, but I am looking forward to 'when ever' the east coast meet up will be, b/c we are so there, and like others have said, we will all get turns - YAY - YAY!!!

GREAT JOB COMMITTEE

I live in Southern California, and I (as well as many others) flew from here to KC. I paid 350 for my flight. That is a lot to me, but if you're going to be driving 8 hours, at 4.65 a gallon, you're going to be spending $260 round trip anyway, so you're not going to be saving much by having it on your coast, unless it is practically in your own home town. The meetup IS going to cost money, and it will take time. That is all there is to it.

The committee put a lot, and I mean A LOT of time and effort into putting the KC meetup on, and it will be a lot of work for the next one no matter where it is. Since YTers are scattered ALL OVER THE US, how much more fair can it be than to have it centrally located one year, on one coast the next, and on the opposite coast the one after that???!!!! You can't get any more fair than that.

I am amazed at how much whining is going on in this thread. If you can't make it to the meetup if it is in a certain location, that is understandable, but it is sad to see what should be a positive exciting thread (I'm excited about the next meetup!) turn into this. Sure, I'd like it if it is in Southern California this year, but I'll most likely still go no matter where it is. Flight prices change every day. If it is on the east coast somewhere, I'll just watch the flight prices and snag it when the price is right.

We've got a whole year to do that!

I'm sorry if anything I've said in this post upsets anyone, but it is disheartening to see people carry on about how "if it is held in ______ city, I won't be able to go; let's have another vote." So instead of sulking if it isn't where you want it to be, try to have a positive outlook and price out flights and such and see if you can make it work. I know I've already been looking at flights to GA and VA, and flights that are $600 today may be $300 tomorrow.

Just keep an open mind and realize this will be a fun and exciting event--no matter where it is held.

Well said

I know we (Layla's Mom, MyFairLacy and I) will be going regardless of location. And we will be driving, as we want to be able to take as many of our babies as we can. We will be driving over 20 hours one way if it ends up in San Diego, over 16 hours if in Savannah and over 22 hours if in Alexandria; and those times don't include stops!! We had so much fun in KC and can't wait to meet even more members at the next ones. So we will be there, provided some type of family emergency situation doesn't come up.

Whatever the committee decides about voting will be okay with me
Is that round trip???? If iit is San Diego, I'll be driving to Indy and flying out from there!!!!

American Airlines - Number of Pets Allowed
Only one pet kennel per ticketed passenger may be accepted for travel in the cabin. The kennel may contain two (2) dogs or two (2) cats but they must be the same species, ages between 8-weeks and 6-months, and weigh less than 20 lbs.

Unless I'm reading it incorrectly they are addressing traveling with two pets at the same time. I have flown American frequently with Lucy and they know her age (over a year) as it is on her health certificate.

Well thats a bummer! I thought southwest was the only one that wouldnt let you bring dogs. I may not be bringing my 2 so it may not matter. My Husband said it might be better to take them when we can drive to a meet up but if I get my way they are coming

Pet Carrier Guidelines
The maximum size for cabin pet carriers is 23" long x 13" wide x 9" high. Animals must be able to stand up, turn around and lie down in a natural position in the kennel. Soft-sided pet carriers are accepted as long as they are constructed of water-repellent, padded nylon with mesh ventilation on two or more sides.

A pet kennel counts as either a passenger's one carry-on bag or personal item - a cabin pet fee still applies, however.

Number of Pets Allowed
Only one pet kennel per ticketed passenger may be accepted for travel in the cabin. The kennel may contain two (2) dogs or two (2) cats but they must be the same species, ages between 8-weeks and 6-months, and weigh less than 20 lbs.

The maximum number of carry-on kennels allowed (on American Airlines flights accepting them) is seven per flight: two (2) in first class and five (5) in coach and/or business class. However, service animals are not counted in the maximum number allowed in the cabin.

On American Eagle and AmericanConnection®, two kennels (at most) are allowed depending on the aircraft - please contact Reservations before your flight.

Movement of Pets During Flight
Pets may not be removed from their kennel/container at any time while on-board the aircraft.

Age/Health Information
Dogs and cats must be at least eight (8) weeks old for travel. If two animals are traveling in the same carrier, no older than six months old, they must be the same species and weigh less than 20 lbs.

American assumes no liability for the health or well-being of carry-on pets.

ok from the wording the way i understand it is if you try to bring 2 pets they have to be the same species and neither can be over 6 months....so one pet in carrier on can be older....it is still a no go for those trying to bring quiet a few yorkies

I voted for San Diego....2 reasons...No humidity and it is only about an hour away from me. It would be great to go to the east coast, but I most likely won't be able to take off work for more than a few days.

The way i read that as long as my 2 were in 2 carriers they would be fine. My husband would bring one as a carry on and then me also.

OK Ladies, I don't what to make anyone mad but this is getting to be ridiculous. There is no way under the sun that the committee can make everyone happy. This voting thing is getting out of hand too (IMO). The committee has graciously given hours and hours of time and money planning a meet up for us. I think since they are putting their time and effort into all this work, they should just pick a spot. If you can come....ok....if you don't like where it's held....don't come. I will bet money that where ever it is held there will be people from that area that don't show up....just like the one this year. We had an awesome time at the KC meet up and it was worth every penny that I spent to get there.
