Question Full vs. Limited Registration?

as in reading over a lot of the forum and seeing how few even Register their babies,, saying they dont show or breed so no need,,my question is,, does it matter to you in purchasing a Yorkie,, full or limited registration if its being bought for a pet?

MY MISTAKE!!!! I clicked on two items...but only meant to vote on one.

Full registration is all you would want even as a pet (this is the only one that I wanted to vote for)

You feel if you pay for the dog it should have FULL registration (accidently clicked on this one, too! _

My little girl has a full registration but I do not intend on breeding her. AKC means to me that the pups are well bred and healthy. I know that there are always chances but at least you know the lineage.

My thoughts exactly. The fact that my baby's parents are registered (and gorgeous themselves!) is what I was looking for. My little sweetie is a companion, not to be bred; I didn't see the need to have her fully registered.

I'm not a breeder. Just someone being nosey When a breeder sells a pup with limited registration does that mean she does not want that pup bred? I'm asking because someone on the for sale section has pups posted for sale and I went over to her site to look and I see that one of her breeding females is listed with limited registration so the pups being sold from that particular female are being sold without papers. It seemed a little odd as I always thought that if you bought a pup with limited registration it meant it was being sold to a pet only home? Thanks. Elaine

Yes, limited means you the breeder did not want you to breed that dog and you dont have permission to do it.
Obviously, people will do what they want (sadly), but then those puppies they sell will have no papers.

Thanks for confirming that. I have a feeling that this particular breeder also may get some of her pups from mills but have no solid proof of that. Also, googled her and saw that she had some legal issues concerning another dog being loose and attacking. I guess that fact she's breeding a female with limited registration and advertising her on her web as such, tells a lot in itself. Poor girl does not even look in great shape. I just hope that whoever is interested in this person's pups investigates her before buying. Elaine

I wouldn't even consider buying from a breeder that sold puppies with full registration (unless they were placing in a show home). I would only buy from a breeder with a strict spay/neuter contract and limited registration

I chose the first one. Sophie has limited registration, and I never minded. I knew she was too small to breed and she is now spayed. I only offer my puppies on limited registration (unless in the future I have a puppy that I feel is show quality that I won't be keeping myself) and a spay neuter contract as well. I want to KNOW that my babies aren't being bred. Sadly, there are still way to get around it, such as other registrations that aren't as strict, so I guess you never REALLY know other than to screen your applicants as thoroughly as possible. I cancelled a sale to a lady the other day after she let something slip about possible intentions to breed in the future. I gave her back her deposit and said "sorry". I truly do care about my babies and where they go. I would rather keep them all than have them end up in a puppy mill or being bred to death.

I have mixed feelings about this one, I have never purchased a dog of any breed without full registration even though I may have had them fixed right away. Now on the other hand we are considering having puppies in the future and I would only sell them with limitied registration. The main reason being I would want to know someone well enough to trust them to breed, there are to many dogs having babies for the sole purpose of any easy way for thier owners to make money.
