Parker has been diagnosed with LP but not by a specialist. But from what she says his is more severe and will need surgery. They don't bother him at all and if his vet hadn't told me I wouldn't have known.

Jazzie has LP -4, she will have surgery as soon as I find the "right vet". I'm starting to wonder if Zander has LP issues too. I saw him get up from his bed and keep his leg up, I felt like someone through ice water on me. Since then he will occassionally pull his other leg up when we are walking, ooohhh ggooooshhh.

Why didn't you include a vote for "does not have any signs of LP" so that we can get a clearer picture? I would like to know how many of our Yorkies on YT have perfect knees with no signs of LP. Mattie has no signs of LP so far. Kalina may have a mild LP in one knee only, but if so it is extremely slight and doesn't need anything.

Not sure if this was mentioned, but please keep in mind that LP can also be caused by a lot of jumping by the dogs.
Jumping off the sofa, jumping off the bed, etc...
It is sooo hard to keep them from jumping.
And my older girl use to constantly climb the kitchen baby gate and jump out, so I assume that is what caused hers.
My boys "breeder" is a whole other story.

Just got back from a routine vet visit and Sully has LP in his right hind leg. He is only about 9 months old! I am so sad, and can't believe how many others have to deal with this. Do any of you know if LP is in one leg, if it is pretty common to have it in the others at a later time?

Loki just has the one LP, grade 2. Loki's was also diagnosed at about the same age as Sully and his has not gotten any worse and the other leg shows no signs of it (he's 3). You might be fine if it's only a grade 2. Did they tell you how bad it is?

LP's are genetic Large dogs tend to get them from jumping but our babies are born with them due to having it somewhere in a backline

Both of my girls have them. Kyanne has a grade 3 in her left and a 2 in her left. She doesn't complain but she will no longer jump down from things (couch, chair) Sometimes she sleeps with her butt in the air, I think she does it because she doesn't want to bend her knees Kaylynnes are not as bad she has a 1 and 2. They both came from a champion breeder (NR) that told me it was just a fluke that they had LP's.

We will need surgery within the next year says the vet

Hope you dont mind all my Questions prayer are with your babies, hope they are not in pain.
Ditto for me so I voted "don't know". Izzy is almost 13 months and no problem. She goes in June for her check up so I'll ask the vet again but he never said anything to me the two times she's been there for routine stuff so I would assume she does not have LP.

She didn't "grade" it but from what I've read it sounds like a 2. He will occasionally lift it up to get it back into place but has never limped or seemed like he was in pain. I just can't believe that they have this so young. It is encouraging to hear that Loki's hasn't progressed though! It seems like surgery isn't always a necessity though from the few things I've read and hope that is the case.

LP is so common that some breeders just consider it "normal" and that's sad.

You'll know if it becomes a problem. Sammy walks funny because she doesn't want to bend her knees. Imagine walking with your knees locked - that's how she walks. She still bends them to run and gosh can she JUMP, there's no stopping her! But it does impact her every day so she will have surgery in March. With Loki, it doesn't bug him often so there's no need to put him through surgery. I also give them lots of glucosamine.

Bailey has stage one in her left leg, she's 4#s age 3.
Maggie doesn't have it, she's 10 #s age 5.
Different litters, same parents. Father was 5#s, Mother was 7#s.

Codie already had LP surgery on one leg. Cali needs LP surgery on both back legs in the future. Tia seems to be fine (so far) -- THANK GOD!

Yes mine refused to admit it was genetic and continues to breed
