| Has your Yorkie been to obedience school? Hi! Oscar is almost done with his 10 week obedience class. We go to Animal Inn Training Center in Minnesota. I'm considering continuing his education into advanced obedience and agility. How many others here have gone through obedience school, and where did you go? |

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | We put Eddie through Petco's 6-week adult program when he was 11 months. It was a pretty basic class, but he learned a lot. We were mainly interested in teaching him better leash manners and to stay and come on command. He learned all that and more.

| You do know that it is not the yorkie that has to learn obedience? It is us who needs to learn how to communicate our wishes to the dog. They can do anything, we need to learn how to tell them. Therefore an untrained or inobedient dog is never to blame - it is the human who is a stupid mutt!

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | I would agree with that. My first lesson: I used to SCREAM at Eddie to "COME" when he ran away. Of course, he ran anyway. The class instructor told me to soften my voice. When I did that, he came. Imagine that.

However, dogs have their good days and bad days, and it is in their nature to learn to be obedient due to the fact that they are a pack animal with a pecking order. You can tell a dog, in the right way, to do something, but it will not learn it without repetition and consistency. So that being said, I think both owner and dog must go through a learning process.

In regards to my checking "no" - I taught Sully by myself. So, in a sense yes he also went to Obedience School of Mom, haha! He got training, that's for sure! I just didnt' have to pay for it and he got more individual attention, lol.

| Yes the training classes are TO TRAIN YOU, to train them. Bailey went to a 6 week program, and there was this woman that said " OH we dont just leave them and pick them up later?" the trainer said " NO!!" We had some dandies in our class.

Isn't that the truth. I can get the kids to mind and -respect me. If my husband tries they just ignore him. They think that he is a joke. I can take the kids out with me when I want to sit in my garden- they all stay with me and do not take off. My hubby tried this with just one of them they were going to have some male bonding time- wrong Reggie exited stage door left and would not respond to my husbands demands or pleadings to return. The scamp went to the manure pile at the horse barn and had a wonderful time. He needed a bath inside and out. Wow did he stink- and no thank you- no kisses today mister. He knew that when I called he had to come and did. wnalegria

| I really want to get Jeremiah into obedience class but I don't have time too. Too many things to do at home but I guess when he gets older I'll take him because you gotta teach an old dog new tricks.

| Yup! Bailey was enrolled in a puppy class back when we first got him. It was mainly to socialize him, but he did learn "sit" & "come" along with being socialized |
