| I know how great it is to change to a SLR too. I went from a point & shoot to a Nikon 3000 awhile back and love it. However, I'm still trying to figure out how to manual use...errr. I know I'm not using to it's full potential. I need a beginer's class or something, lol.

| Congratulations! I'm sure you are going to continue to love using it. The best camera is the one that you feel most comfortable using, but I am particularly partial to Nikons. They are all wonderful, have great ergonomics, excellent lenses and I love Nikon colors. I can't wait to see your photos.

| I got my first digital camera only about three years ago, so I know the huge learning curve there is. I had used SLRs for about thirty years at that point but I knew nothing about digital until I began my research. Even with years of using cameras, I am not using my digital SLR to its fullest capabilities. I helped a close friend who was looking for a camera, and she got the D3000. It takes beautiful photos, and she loves it. If you haven't seen Nikon's digitutor site, it is very helpful. I'd also recommend any of Bryan Peterson's books on photography. Understanding Exposure is great for any person on any skill level of photography. His field guide is also really good, but his exposure book gives you a basic foundation on exposure, lenses, and good photography. The photos are beautiful, and it doesn't take a lot of time to read. It gives you a good understanding of how f stops, shutter speed, and ISO work together to give you a properly exposed photo and gives great photography tips. He also has online classes, but I haven't taken any of them. Since I got the D3000, I take pictures on auto because I don't know the 1st thing about setting manually and I have just settled for whatever they come out like. But I want to learn how to do more. Thanks for getting me started.
