| Spent a lot of money on a flash I don't know how to use I almost FREAKED out when I opened the flash and saw there were BUTTONS on it- i thought i just put it on and voila- ready to use. does anyone know of a website that can help. I bought the Canon Speedlite 430 EX and I haven't even taken it out of the box. I looked at the "manual" it came with but it makes no sense to me- kinda like the manual that my camera came with..... I feel like I have spent a lot of money on something that is way over my head- please help |

| That is a nice looking flash! Ok, I have a Nikon, but the buttons are similar. Your flash can do a lot of advanced stuff, but if all you want for now is to shoot and not worry about it, there should be a "TTL" mode when you press the "mode" button. You should be able to cycle through different modes. Just put it in TTL mode and the flash will match with whatever settings you use on your cam . The Pilot button (red) is to just test the flash The :"slave" switch don't worry about unless you use multiple flashes One more thing I thought of, you may have some settings in your camera menu to set your external flash, if so, just set it to "TTL mode and you will be all set Hope this helps, you won't regret getting the flash I found this site that offers a training dvd for the flash, but haven't seen tutorials online yet, going to check http://www.simonsmithexplanations.co...-Tutorial.html

| I have a blinker too! Is it just the noise that makes Layla blink, or is it the pre-flash? If it is the preflash, you can set it not to do that

Yes, sorry. The pre-flash is for red eye reduction, Nikon has different terms for it

Its a cord that attaches to the flash then to the camera so you can use the flash off the camera You can hand hold your cam and have the flash set up on the tripod and still hooked to the camera via the cord. Or you can have your cam on the tripod, and hand-hold your flash off to the side, or up or anywhere you want. If turning off your red-eye reduction doesn't work for Laylas' blinking, this would be a great option, the flash would not be directly in front of her on the camera. Makes some very nice lighting too This is what it looks like: Amazon.com: Cowboystudio E-ttl / E-ttl Ii... The TTL cords are not real expensive, depending on where you buy, Ive seen them go for anywhere from 19 dollars up to 70 dollars

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Marci - you are tilting/bouncing the flash, right?

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | That's what I'm thinking...right now, it's probably a conditioned response (ie, Pavlov's dog). So, maybe just hold her on your lap, petting her, hold camera, or just flash under a blanket, and get her used to just the noise/click - and "condition" her to that noise/click...see it that helps some..?

| Take your camera and the flash to a local photography store, they will show you how to work both. |
