| Note to self: Don't ever do this while cooking What is your worst food disaster? While I'm glad to say I haven't had that many disasters, I do remember as a child, thinking boiling water would take too long to boil eggs so I though I would nuke them. Anyway just now I realized when I made sake (salmon) poke too salty, to add more tomato. BAD idea. The tomato leaked out water and made the poke look not only yucky but taste bland as well. Last week I wanted to make my signature pickles. The market I went to didn't have Persian cukes, so I bought what they had. End result is NOT the same sadly. I thought I could fix it by adding more vinegar to the jar, um NO! Hmmmm.

| Ok I just remembered. When I was about 10 or 12, my cousin and I wanted to make Rice Krispie treats. We didn't have marshmallows so we thought maple syrup would be just as good. Needless to say it didn't really work.

| Walmart has a microwave egg cooker... works great, but don't ask me to explain how, lol. Takes about 15 minutes for 4 eggs. For oversalting disasters, add potatoes, they will absorb the salt and stay in a form that you can still remove from the pot. Can't help with the pickles, other than to help eat them, lol!

| Oh my! For 15 mins it'd be just better to boil eggs outright! Right?

Donating YT 3000 Club Member | I cooked eggs in the microwave once. . . .rubber.. . . Now the only thing I use the microwave for is either warming up a plate of food with multiple items on it, , like turkey dinner. Or sticking food in it so the cats do not get at it

| I put a whisked egg in a bowl with a bit of water and put it in the microwave to cook for Uni (didn't want to use a pan and oil for her). It actually cooked very well. I nuked it for about 30 secs then stirred and kept doing it until it was cooked through. It actually came out very much like this Korean steamed egg dish thing that I really like that I order with Korean bbq.

As for oversalting my poke, I put too much soy sauce, and I don't think potato would be good in poke too LOL

| My mother had a recipe for frosted brownies that we all loved. I was a young girl - probably 12 or 13 and wanted to make it myself. I had no trouble making the brownies and as they were cooling I mixed up the frosting according to her recipe. . . which called for 1/4 cup coffee. . . bet you can guess what happened as we all sat down to take a bite. It was kind of crunchy!!! |

♥Love My 3 Furrbutts♥ Donating Member | One of my fav dishes as a kid was Jamaica's national dish Ackee and Saltfish. The fish used is cod, cured in salt, so needless to say you can't eat it like that. You either soak overnight, or boil....no so much as to remove all the salt though. Well here's me about 14yrs old...I decide i'm gonna make momma's signature dish for the family one Sunday morning....did I remember to soak the fish....um no...was it hella salty....hell YEA! And you can't add potatoes to kill the salt, it the garbage it went! Come next Sunday, Jacqui tries again, this time she decides to boil the saltfish.....um don't think I was supposed to boil it for two hours....boiled the salt right off it! Talk about no taste.....gross!!!! I've since learned how to cook it properly....now my daughter is doing the exact same things I did, except she is now 28yrs old! LOL!

| How about overcooked pasta - I was probably 14 years old and my oldest brother came home from college with his friend (whom I was secretly crushing on) and mom was working - she started dinner and asked me to finish - she had the sauce in the crockpot and all I needed to do was cook the pasta and add to the sauce. Needless to say, I got sidetracked doing something and the pasta cooked for about 15 minutes or twice as long as it should have cooked - I just went ahead and added it to the sauce - it was the most "gummy-like" pasta I've ever had. Have never over cooked my pasta since that day.
