Default In need of Yorkie pup

HI Everyone,
I am looking (desperately) for a male pup. I want a full sized guy, and have Yorkie experience, so my hubby and i will be able to give a pup a great home. I'm in Palos Verdes, in S. Ca. Thru the AKC I've found 2 Yorkie breeders within a few hours. One has a waiting list for her 3 week old pups, and the other has 2 week old pups that she's offered to show me in 8 weeks or so. I've looked in newspapers, and made several inquiries thru Petfinders and other online organizations. The responses i've gotten make me suspect Puppy Mills (One ad said the breeder was in S.Ca with parents on site. When I contacted them, the e mail response was that they had moved to Hawaii, had pups ready to ship (money upfront, sight unseen!). Bad sign.....
Can anyone lead me to a reputable person in the S.Ca area? I'm not interested in showing, or anything but companionship, but i want to be sure of what i'm getting, and who I'm dealing with! Thanks!

Default no luck

More suspect puppy mills! They send responses to inquires with word that they've moved, but will ship! Just pay money up front and get who knows what! I'm going to see a pup in S.Ca on Wednesday, but difficult to get info on size. I want a hearty sized male.....
good luck to you too.

I don't know if you would consider rescue but here are some Yorkies/Mixes in California. Some are purebred....so good luck in your search!

Default Pet finder

Actually Petfinder is where i got responses from people who said they moved and would ship them! Also tried "underdawgrescue" and got an auto response, but no follow up response.

Wish i was near you in Co too! Question for you: if i'm looking for a larger size male, can you give me any guidelines about what they should weigh at 12 weeks or so? Even though i will love any dog that comes into our family, i want to learn as much as possible about increasing my chances on getting a bigger one. Any thoughts anybody?

Thanks

The basic rule of thumb is that whatever they weigh at 12 weeks, you can double plus maybe 1/2 lb. for their full adult weight. Of course it can vary, and some experience growth spurts at different ages, but this is my understanding of basic indication. Looking at the parents, and grandparents, and history of previous litters is helpful, but not always available. Good luck on finding a healthy one! The only way to guarantee getting one of the weight you really want is to get a full grown adult.

Okay...you need to have a little patience.. and you will get the perfect dog for you...What size would you really like? What sex would you really like? What do you want to do with your dog? High energy? Low energy? Are there children? Do you live in a house? How long would the dog be alone during the day?

I know a lot of questions but a lot of rescue's have larger size dogs ... even some puppies (I am not sure if you are interested in a puppy or not?) but it is best to have a dog that works in your life style.

Default Perfect guy

Mine was about 8 lbs which i know is big.
I'm very active and he was my constant companion. He loved long walks, other dogs and people and was incredibly adaptable to anything as long as we were together. We don't have any kids. I work from home. I do want a pup; mine loved learning and we had a ball and were quite successful! I am very open to rescuing a pup, but everything i found so far turned out to be scams. I'd sure appreciate your help!

That's funny, when you said you wanted a big boy, I was thinking more like 12 lbs.; I still think of 8 lbs. as small even though it is just over the top of the AKC breed range of 7#. I'm with you though, my Tiki is 7+# and I'm so happy she is not any smaller. She is just right!

Have you posted in the section Yorkies for Sale & Wanted? You might get more response there than in the Regional section. Also, maybe put a post in the Breeder's section asking for a referral to breeders in your area, or inquire about upcoming litters. Again, good luck in finding your next companion.

Hello,

We are neighbors!!! (sort of...) Anyways, i know its very hard to find a reputable breeder around So Cal. Ive been there.... The only thing i can say is you will probably have to fly yourself out to another state to pick up your puppy. When i got Maddie, she was shipped here. I know there are alot of people who are against shipping but the breeder assured me that everything would be fine and it was. Also, the breeder was a member here on YT and Maddie was 2 yrs old when I got her. I have been very satisfied with this breeder. If you want her info, let me know, i will pm u with it. I know there are some very reputable breeders right here on YT and if they dont allow shipping, maybe they will allow u to fly there and take the pup in the cabin with u? It will be a great one day trip to somewhere!

Are you looking for a puppy or are you willing to consider an older yorkie? its hard to determine a yorkie pups size so if size is very imp. to u, i would consider an adult yorkie...

I will keep my eyes and ears open for any reputable breeders around here and let u know if i find one

Good Luck!
