| Gizmo's getting evaluated I've posted before on here about Gizmo, my mom's boxer (Rocky's best friend as well) and how he is sometimes aggressive towards people. The past few weeks my moms been planning on taking him in to put him down because she can't trust him and never knows what he's going to do. After talking to my dad, I found out that when my dad is around, Gizmo is a totally different dog then with my mom. He is well-behaved, CAN be trusted, and doesn't growl or threaten to bite people. From his actions, I think he's just really protective of my mom, and we found out after the fact that his mom was mean so he more than likely inherited that as well. So anyways, tomorrow, my dad and I are taking Gizmo to a guy that was recommended to my dad to rehabilitate him. For those who don't know, Gizmo's been through training, but the trainer said he'll probably always be aggressive like this. So tomorrow this guy is going to evaluate Gizmo and see if he thinks he'll be able to work with him. I'm so excited that theres finally hope! I've been pushing my mom to take Gizmo somewhere else, and it's been really tough on my mom, so my dad kinda made the decision. We weren't going to tell her, just surprise her but today she called me and said she's taking Gizmo TOMORROW to put him to sleep. Please pray for Gizmo that there will be a miracle, he CAN get rehabilitated, and my mom will have it a lot easier with him! She's so stressed out, she loves him to death, probably treats him better than she treats me, LOL! She's cried non stop over this, she's so afraid of him attacking someone, so I'm hoping that this guy is not only able to help Gizmo out, but if he does that it gives my mom a peace of mind. It would mean a lot to me! I hate to see my mom suffering, but I would also hate for Gizmo's life to end because he's only 4yrs old and still has so much ahead of him!

| My prayers are with you, your family, and Gizmo. If your mom doesn't get the peace of mind she is seeking, please encourage her to look into a boxer rescue organization instead of putting him to sleep. Rescues are very good at identifying if these behaviors could be rehabilitated OR if a certain type of home would alleviate the behaviors. For example, if a dog is protectively or jealously aggressive, sometimes they can place them in a home with no children, no other pets, not many visitors, sometimes only a single man or a single woman, etc., etc. AND they react on the drop of a dime - they are trained to do so. Good Luck!

| ^Thank you so much! I asked my mom about rescues, adoption, etc. When I was little we took in another boxer, he was I believe 2 or so when we got him, and he was aggressive towards other animals. He attacked 2 other dogs and since my sister and I were little, she decided she can't have him around because we couldn't handle him. She called the Boxer Rescue in this area and they were very mean to her, and from what she told me they said something on the lines of "You people get these dogs and their cute when their puppies, but they get bigger and you don't want them anymore!" She said it was already hard enough, she didn't need that on top of it! Plus, we already had another boxer, so it wasn't like "ooh dogs too big now!" and we took him when he was full grown! She did find a loving owner for him from the breeder, the breeder knew a guy who had to put his boxer down and was looking for another one, so he went with him and lived a happy life. So she said she'll never contact the rescue again (I think that's the only one around here) and I really can't blame her! As for finding a family for him, my moms afraid that what if he ends up with someone who doesn't tolerate him, might at first, but gets fed up and beats him, or if she adopts him out herself, and he attacks his new owners. Plus, like my dad was saying he wouldn't mind finding a person to adopt him to w/ no children (pets are o.k, Gizmo's great with other animals), but it would break Gizmo's heart to not be with my mom, which is true, he's my moms baby!

| I'm soooo sorry about her bad experience with a Rescue Org. I've just never heard anything but good about any Rescues!! I hope that was an isolated situation. That is just awful and not what they are about! Let us know what happens, and I'll keep sending positive thoughts and prayers.

| Thank you soo much, again! Yeah it sux, that was my first thought too, a rescue. Plus, I love Gizmo a lot too, I would hate to see him in a shelter, maybe if he had a foster mommy, I know it would still be real hard on him, but theres no way I could stand to see him in a shelter. After I moved out he would lay by my old bedroom door, it took him a while to realize I was gone. I really want to take him in with me, but that worries my mom even more because I live in a townhouse, so my yard is really small and closer w/ others. I tell her not to worry and joke that if he bites anyone, I don't have any money for them to sue me! If I had a single family home and could have a fenced in yard then maybe I could take him, then him and Rocky would play all day, don't know about Bella Rocky's kinda protective of her though, LOL

| I hope everything works out well for you too. It's hard for him. He just loves your mom so much that he doesn't want anything to happen to her. He doesn't realize he's being overprotective.

| Thank you! I feel bad for him because he doesn't know what he's doing is wrong either. My main worry if he does do this training, he'll be at this place for 2 weeks...I have no idea what he'll think then

| Update..good & bad Just got back from the evaluation, unfortunatly the guy doesn't think he'll be able to help Gizmo because Gizmo is fine with his obedience and commands. After working with him, he said he feels it's probably neurological; could be a tumor maybe in his brain (boxer are prone to getting cancer) or even something like bipolar disorder (which I totally see, because one second Gizmo's fine, the next he's not). He did say that he doesn't think Gizmo needs to be put to sleep though! I'm so happy about that, and I think my mom feels a lot better as well! Tomarrow Gizmo has to get his rabies shots, so my moms going to talk to the vet about any xrays, medicine, treatment, etc. that they can do to try and see what the root of this is. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that something will be able to be done, and that it won't be too costly. Another thing I liked about this guy was that he was honest, he was like "I could take him here and work with him and take your money, but that's what I would be doing is just taking your money because I don't think anything is wrong with his obedience" I also got some tips on how to get Rocky to stop barking at other dogs in the neighborhood too!

| i'm glad he's not getting PTS anytime soon, hopefully the vet can find out what's wrong with him, and help him get better with meds

| I hope so! Trying not to get my hopes up as much because I'm afraid if I do, I'll be let down..you know, hope for the best, expect the worst. But this whole experience this afternoon shed a new light on what I think is going to happen!

| Tomarrow Gizmo is going for an appointment with the behaviorist!! I wish I could go with, but I'll be at school and work all day. I'm really anxious to see what the doctor has to say, I'm hoping it will all be good!
