| Cat owners I need your help I'm pretty close to adopt a 5 month old cat, but Kiki, my husband's 7 year old cat is very territorial, so I'm having problems introducing the new kitty to Kiki. When we got married I used to have a cat and she never liked him. He past away a few months later, but she gave him hard time while he was alive. We take care of my in laws cat when they go out of town ( three or four times a year) and you would think that Kiki would be used to other cats by now, well no, she gives Norman (my in laws cat)hell when he is here. It's been 5 years since my cat past away and we haven't had another cat but her, and the exceptions of Norman staying with us while the in laws are on vacation. This new kitty is a sweet heart. She is been staying with us for a month already. She belongs to my aunt, but she can't keep her since she has a 2 year old boy and she is afraid that the kid can hurt the cat or viceversa. I have tried to introduce the 2 cats slowly but, Kiki gets very aggresive and tries to attack the kitty. I have a separate bedroom for the kitty and KIki sneaks in and chases her all the way under the bed and starts attacking her. In other words, I have to keep them separated all the time. They are both indoors cats and they are both females. I take turns leaving them around the house. A few hours Kiki and a few hours Kitty, but I feel like I'm being unfair to both of them. If they could only get along I would be so happy! Kitty wants to be friends with Kiki, but Kiki won't even try. Any suggestions? Hubby was asking me if there is such a thing as the cat whisperer

| No, outside is not an option. We don't really want to keep either cat outside. Plus, it's against the deed restrictions. I've been searching online and found some good tips that I'm going to put into practice

| whenever 2 cats meet at first there will more than likely be friction. I remember my mother in law had 2 cats one was so sweet while the other did not take to the new cat she would hiss and go to attack her. what she did was have one in a crate and let the other sniff her and they would both hiss. then she would switch it up and put the other in the crate they had to get use to the other being around. it took awhile but both cats ended up snuggled together on the couch...it will get better! |

| Do you have a bathroom you could keep the kitten in? That way, they could smell each other the door for awhile. |

Cats can get a little crazy when they don't like one another, good luck! This should work.

| I have had lots of experience introducing new cats to an older, only cat. There will be friction for a while. I found what works best, and this may sound mean, is to let them have at it while you are home and can supervise. When you must leave them alone, keep them separated. When I introduced a female kitten to a 5 year old male, my male hid under the bed, hissed and spit, and would not come out or eat for 3 days. Within 6 months, he was very protective of the younger one. They became best friends. There will be a time where you may observe the hissing, spitting, etc. Sometimes I think they do that just so you won't figure out that they have become friends. The older cat just needs time to a accept the younger cat into the group. Good luck.

| Kiki is spayed, but Kitty is not yet. The vet said that once she turns 6 months old we can spay her.

| I have 11 cats. My females don't really like each other. They tolerate each other as long as they have their space. They have their own territory in the house. But do fight occasionally. My males all get along and they get along with the females. All mine are spayed and neutered. I have had them all since they were kittens. If there is a fight(nothing major), they all come running to see what is going on. It gets crazy. Once they they get used to each other and the kitten fights back they should settle down.
