Maya definately has Cushings

I am so sad. The vet just called and Maya 100% has Cushings. She fell in the 50% group where you can't determine if it's from a tumor or not. So she has to have an abdominal ultrasound tomorrow. The vet was very thorough and talked to me for 20 minutes. It is a very scary disease and further complicated by her heart condition. She said we will need to get a team of doctors should she have the tumor kind to determine if she could go through the surgery. I just don't know what to do. Please keep her in your prayers.

Patti, I'm so sorry to hear about Maya having Cushings. My dad's poodle has it too and they treat him with meds, he has had it for several years and is doing well. Best wishes for her treatments.

I'm SO SORRY !! I have to read up on cushings again but they had thought at one time my son's dog had it....did they tell you that she can be treated and is she going to be ok ?? Is surgery a must with her condition ?? I just said a prayer for you - this must be scaring you so bad.....

I am sorry. Sending prayers for Maya and you that she can be treated with the meds. I know it has to be scary but keep on thinking positive, because Cushings dogs have been known to live a long time with the treatments available now. Sending well wishes for Maya.

Thanks. The vet said if she has the kind that needs surgery we would have to discuss in detail how to go forward. I just hope it's able to be treated with Meds.

I had a dog that had Cushing's......it wasn't caught early enough by the "bogus" vet I was using......I kept telling him to test my dog for that and he kept saying it's not Cushing's and that I should go to a specialist.....well I found another vet......and he was tested and diagnosed......he hung in there for a year....and his hair started growing back.......but I believe had the original vet been more aggressive and caught it earlier we would have had much better results.......I've heard such awful things about that original vet I was using since my experience........(including things from his FORMER receptionist who is a friend of my son's, who quit working there because she couldn't stand seeing how much of a thief he was) how sad it is that someone who is supposed to be dedicated to helping creatures that can't help themselves has such ulterior motives.....

I hope Maya will be able to get meds and be just fine.....I have heard success stories with Cushing's......

I am concerned that Maya has had this for awhile as she has had these skin issues and weight gain for a couple of years. The vet that I kept getting for Maya at the place I go to was new and he never seemed to know what to do. When I took her in last week for the worsening skin problems I was the one that suggested I take her to a dermatologist who in turn suspected Cushings as soon as she saw her. He also diagnosed her with the thyroid problem which now they think she doesn't really have but the cushings made her test look abnormal. Was the year a good year for your dog or was he sick a lot?
