| Broken Tail? Has anyones dog had a broken tail? I think Bella (my maltese) might have one because she has a lump right in the middle of her tail. If I push on either side she doesn't do anything and then if I push on the lump she nips at me like it hurts a little. She hasn't cried or anything so I don't think it is really bothering her. I am going to call the vet and see what they say but I was just curious to see if anyone else has had this problem.

| My chihuahua has that..its close to the end of his tail..same as you explianed..if you touch it he doesn't mind but if you squeeze it he yelps. and his tail kind curves where the lump is. I don't think anything of it though. oh yeah hes had this for a year now..he hasn't picked at it or anything he just acts normal |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | Omgosh - a friend and I were talking about this on the phone the other day - got into tail docking pros and cons .....and from what I understand yorkies and similar breeds - (like a maltese) can break their tails easily if UN docked - so now when I see the debates over tail docking I'll be leaning towards it being a good thing - I hope her tail isn't broken but a vet can tell you for sure - good luck !! |

| So I took Bella to the vet and she has a dislocated tail. There isn't anything they can do for her but he said that she doesn't have much discomfort anyways. I was so happy to hear that it wasn't a broken tail. He said if it were, then they would have had to cut it off! So now she will just live with a kinked tail.

| Poor thing! So it doesn't curl over her back anymore? I wonder how she dislocated it? I hope she feels better soon! |

| It still curls up because of the way she dislocated it. She just has a little kink in it and since she has lots of hair on her tail you really can't tell. I am thinking she might have done it when my uncle's dog was staying with us. He is a 115 lb golden retriever and she loved playing with him. She weights 4 lbs. So that is the only thing I could come up with. She seems fine now though. Thanks for all the get wells everyone!

| Puppy! Thank you so much for this post! I just felt the same type of 'kink' like bump in my puppies tail (around 16 weeks old). He has a really long tail and it's about 3/4 towards the end. We are going to the vet on Saturday so we shall see what the problem is for sure then. This makes my stress level drop significantly though! |
