Animal Smiley 049 Who has a Shih tzu?

What are their temperments? Is their coat easy to care for? And what would be the difference between them and a maltese? Which would you recommend? Thanks for any info!

SHIH TZU

You can get them with a silky or cottony coat ...just like yorkies. Usually the coat is pretty easy to care for. They are super friendly and sturdy little dogs. I just LOVE them and would choose a Shih Tzu over a maltese
OMG plus that curved flag of a tail is just BEAUTIFUL when it gets long!!!!!!

I actually have one of each. The shihtzu is a crap disturber LOL!!! She loves dirty socks the stinker the better, she has gotten to the point the socks are not even safe in the dirty clothes hamper cause she knocks that over, and steals them out of there! LOL! and will sit and litterally will destroy the sock suck on it until there is nothing left, she loves to lay around, very friendly, she loves to lick you in the face feet, we have nicknamed her "FROG" cause she has such a long skinny tognue. I find she is very hard to house train, so I started to kennel her during the night, we have problems with her listening, she loves to run away, and then its a big game to run and run..............their coats are very easy to keep up with, and she has a beautiful tail, that flutters high on her back. Our maltese, is very laid back, she is very stubborn, but was very easy to train. Don't get me wrong I love my dogs, but I would rather have a maltese over a shih tzu, just my opinion.

Default I have a shih tzu!

I have a shih tzu puppy! I have had her for 4 weeks now. She is the cutest.
She is great! Alot easier to potty train than my yorkie Mia. She is very playful and loving. I absolutely love her!

I have never owned one but my son and daughter-in-law had a female for 17yrs. Her name was Gucci and she was a love. Good with kids and other dogs. Her only fault was humping the vacumn whenever it came out of the closet. This went on for 17yrs! It was unbelievable.

Default Phoebe

I have a Shih Tzu named Phoebe. She has a sweet, laid back temperament. I call her my Christian dawg because every time she catches me barefooted, she licks my feet. I keep her in a modified Schnauzer hair cut because she hates to be brushed and she absolutely will not leave bows in her hair. I have been letting her wear a doggie Tshirt to make up for less fur since the temperatures have been falling.

I had a Shih Tzu for 15 years. I had to have her put to sleep in Jan of this year. She went into kidney failure.

Anyway, she was a great dog. The only issue I had with her was that she never was completely housetrained. I could never trust her. I always kept her hair cut short. I did it myself. Her coat tangled a lot easier than my yorkies do.

Good Luck.

Aww thank you. He's such a CUDDLE BUG!! I swear that dog can cuddle for hours and not want to get up and go play. He's so faithful and loyal to me. When I'm sick, he doesn't move an inch from my side. I just love him so much, I can't wait to go home and smooooooooooooch him!!!

I had a shihtzu a long time ago! She was one of the sweetest things in the world. She was extremely loving and social and quite a character.

Love

Aren't the maltese usually smaller than the shih-tzu? Also, I don't know but have heard that the maltese coat is a little more difficult to care for than the shih-tzu.

I'm not really sure how big Maltese gets. Most Shih Tzu are at least 15 lbs. Precious was very small for a Shih Tzu she was about 8 1/2 lbs her whole adult life.
