| Something is wrong with Penny's gums Anyone ever experience any problems with thier dogs gums? My Boxer's gums look HORRIBLE. I saw that one of her toys had a little bit of blood on them so I looked at her gums and they are very swollen looking. They are almost blistered looking and are very puffy around her teeth. She doesnt act like they hurt at all but still I know it cant be good at all. I feel like such a horrible mother. I feel like I let them get this way. I dont brush her teeth because I tried it for a week and all she would do was lick the brush while I tried to brush her teeth and it just was not working and I gave up on it. I feed them hard food and I give them bully sticks and I give her occasional dental chews but I am too afraid to let her have too many dental chews becuase you never really know how safe they are (like wether or not they can digest them). But still I feel like I should have caught this earlier somehow by checking teeth and gums weekly or something. I am going to get her into the vet as soon as possible. Im hoping to get her there tommorrow. I am so nervous. I have no expereince or knowledge of gum diseases in dogs other than I just found out today when I was telling my parents about Penny, that my uncle's dog had died of gum disease at age 6 So I am really worried. If anyone has any info at all about gum infections in dogs I would love hear it. Please pray for Penny.

| Coco our boxer has bad gums too. I didn't know about the teeth brushing until Georgie so Coco has never had her teeth brushed, so I know how you feel about being a bad Mom. I hope you get good news about Penny and thanks for the heads up on gum disease I was so clueless about all this stuff until Georgie. I will say a prayer for Penny.

| I cant get her into the vet until wednesday becasue they are full today and closed tommorrow . BUt Penny doesnt act like she is any pain at all so thats good. In fact she continues to chew on toys and play hard with the little ones so I am hoping she is okay and that this is all just a tiny little gum infection that can be cured with antibitoics. I really have no idea what the normal treatment is for gums. Thanks everyone for sending good thoughts and prayers. We really appreciate it

| Surely everything will be fine. We will keep Penny in our prayers! I am sure whatever it is that you caught it in time. The vet will probably just clean her teeth. Maybe she just has Gingivitis. Please keep us updated! |

| Hi Shana, I don't know really anything about gum disease in dogs but I do know that when I get canker sores or cold sores really bad the best thing to clear it up quickly is a plain tea bag. If she'll let you just soak one in water and rub it around her gums, otherwise just drinking a little cold tea will help. Leastways it certainly won't hurt. I hope the vet can help soon.

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | After hearing what you just heard - I'd be worried too - but if she isn't in pain then hopefully she just has irritated gums maybe FROM chewing ? Though seeing blood is a sign of gum disease - But - being the good mom you ARE - I think you may have caught this early & I bet she's going to be just fine !! |

| First of all, you shouldn't feel like a bad Boxer Mom. You take impeccable care of your critters -- sometimes things just slip up on us. To be on the safe side, why not go ahead and call the vet. Do you think it is possible that she has eaten some "no no" from outside and it has her gums irritated, maybe even a splinter? |

| ***Update*** Went to the vet this morning and Penny is okay!! YAY!! Vet said she has hyperplasia which is very common for boxers and gave us some steroid that is supposed to help it go down, but it already looked a little better as of yesterday. The vet said Penny needed to go on a diet though. She weighs 88 lbs!!! So I guess we need to start going for daily walks
