| "Baby brother" Blaze Last summer we had an Australian Shepherd litter. We kept a male from the litter and named him Blaze. I have to laugh now because I seriously didn't think he was very good looking in the very beginning but our mentor said "you just wait.... this pup will be the best one". I kept saying he looked like a guinea pig when he was a baby. He really did! Well, I guess she knew what she was looking at because he really has turned out well. His mom, Stormie, is 35 pounds but he is turning out like his daddy... as of last week he was 49 pounds - at 8 months old. His daddy will be "retiring" soon as a stud dog and our mentors and others in this Aussie group have told us that Blaze will be a much sought after stud if we decide to go that route. We'll wait to do all the testing to make sure it's all great and talk about it some more. It's a big thing to get into - not as easy to deal with as non-breeders believe. Having the stud at your home is a big commitment. We're prepared for that but will love him all the same if we don't go that route. Stormie is a blue merle with pointy ears and the dad, Roby (with a long "o" sound) is a red tri with gold trim and floppy ears. I swear they are almost identical.

| Blaze is a handsome boy. We have a 9 yr old Australian Shepherd his name is Smoke. My oldest son brought him home as a puppy, a gift from his girlfriend who is now my DIL. When they married I wouldn't let them take him away from me. I was and still am his mommy.

| Thanks! It took a little while to come up with.... one of the top picks was actually "Gunnar". But his rich red color was just screaming for a "fire" name. lol One of his sisters is red also, but without the gold and white trim, and her owners named her Ruby. I thought that was perfect too.

| Beautiful! I loooveee Australian Shepherds. I hope to have one someday. Just beautiful dogs. Can you tell me they're exercise 'requirements'? Are they not as active as a Border Collie, for example? I love the blue merle ones.

I would say they are very similar to Border Collies - we see BC's in the competitions with the Aussies. Stormie is a blue merle but she's smaller - about 35 pounds. Blaze (50 lbs now at 9 months) takes after his daddy with his bigger size and floppy ears. Attaching some more pics. #1 - Stormie and Tatum a few years ago. #2 - Stormie's litter back in August (1 red w/copper & white trim, 1 red w/white trim, 1 blue merle, 1 black w/white trim and 1 red merle) You can't see it on this pic but the b/w one was the only one with a tail because he was going home to Germany. The owner ended up wanting the red merle too though - even though she was docked. #3 - Blaze sleeping with Tricks (the blue merle pup) #4 - Stormie
