Hyperthyroidism in cats... does anyone else have a kitty with hyperthyroidism? Simba is 14 years old, and he was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism a few months ago. The vet put him on medication for his thyroid levels, so after four months of figuring out the right dose we finally got it right about two weeks ago, he's been on the same dose for about a month. We had to wait weeks between blood tests to see if it was the right amount he needed. So he went for his test and the vet told me that his levels were normal now and to keep giving him the same dosage from now on and he'd only have to go in twice a year for blood tests. YAY! I was happy, but now weeks later he's lost a lot of weight again I can feel his back bone and hip bones, he's kind of mopey and he doesn't want any of his favorite treats and he's not eating the amount that he usually eats. Nothing has changed same diet and etc. I don't know what could be wrong now. If anyone else has a cat with the hyperthyroidism did your cat lose any weight or anything after being on the right amount of medication after a few weeks? I don't know what's going on with my Simba, but I am taking him in first thing in the morning. i want to make sure everything is all right and if it's not I want to know what's going on. I'm pretty worried about him, and I'm all antsy now. |
