| Any parrot owners? Just wondering if we have any parrot owners? I go on a conure board but not to many post on it so I don't really get to talk about my other baby too often but I thought I'd share that I have a 7 month old green cheek split yellow sided conure baby boy named Kiwi! He is the other joy of my life along with Stormy and my real babies. I am just so excited to share that he started saying his first word a few weeks ago. He says his own name "kiwi" it is so cute and I think he sense that Stormy is missing because he keeps going over to the kitchen where Stormy's bed is. He enjoys chasing Stormy around the house and she enjoys chasing him around the house also ( his wings are clipped so he likes to walk around the house ) I can't believe how smart these little creatures are, I can be in another room of the house and call his name and he will come to me, he is also a BIG BIG piggie, he tries to steal Stormy's food all the time. Heres a couple pictures of my little buddy! And of course a couple new ones of my baby girl Stormy before the accident. |

| I love parrots.. I had a Quacker when I was younger it was my bestfriend! My mother has two parrots. African Grey and a Double Yellow Amazon ?... They both will jump off their cages and walk to her bedroom for some loving! they are so smart. I would love a parrot myself but Cutie is a hunter and she will kill anything

| Stormy is so cute! I use to have a conure, he has now passed away. They have quite the little personalities. My conure HATED my husband. I think he was jealous! As soon as he'd see my hubby he'd go into attack mode. He'd fly straight for him and start chompin' on the back of his neck, but he was always sweet as pie to me

| LOL Missy that is soooo funny!! For the first time ever yesterday Kiwi went into attack mood and flew off my shoulder right at my step son who was sitting next to me, he grabbed his hair and was screaming and flapping his wings it was hilarious!! Of course I don't allow that behaviour but it was too funny lol. I love parrots!! They sure are sooo smart and mine is such a little piglet, he will eat ANYTHING. If theres food on the table he will find a way to get on the table and try to eat it. Today I had a freezie and he was chopping away at like crazy. He loves to sit on the couch and watch tv. I find it so funny. Whenever my dad is over, Kiwi enjoys biting my dad. He doesn't do it to anyone else like he does my dad, my dad will say " ow that hurts " and kiwi will scream and do it again, he thinks its a game! Valeria, I would so LOVE an african grey, I have watched some on youtube and they are SO smart and speek so well, I hope to own one some day soon! |

| Totally off the question but I have been interested in a bird ever since I meet my husband, his mother in law had a amazon. Anyway I have been told by everyone to get a green cheek conure. Because they are good with Kids and they are one of the quietest parrots out there! And a good first time bird. Is that true? I have a 4 year old, I see that you had a pic of your parrot with a kid. Give me any info you have would be awesome. I also have a kitty I don't know how that would work?

| That's funny . My Amazon parrot, Crash, died a few years ago. He used to bark too. He sounded just like my Yorkie, Squirt. Never could tell which one was barking when they were out of sight.

| aww I am so glad to hear that your conure says so many words, Kiwi is still young and just says Kiwi and occasionally HI but he screams alot especially if I am in another room and call his name he will scream. it is also so funny because I will talk to him pretending to argue and he argues back, it is the most hilarious thing ever!!! BridgettesMomma- They are amazing!!!! This is my first, I bought him for my daughter for her second birthday in July. he will be 8 months on the 14th and I have to say that they are great, VERY VERY smart. I am not sure about other conures but from my experience they are not very loud. They do get their moments where they will scream but it isn't a constant annoying screaming. It's best to get a handfed/tamed baby. My Kiwi has started biting a bit but I tell him a very firm NO and give him a quick time out in his cage and he is starting to get alot better. He doesn't bite hard its a playful bite but still I don't want to encourage bad behaviour. They are VERY social birds that LOVE human interaction. I leave my conures cage open all day so he can come out whenever he likes, his wings are clipped so he can't fly around but he can fly down and fly a little across the room but not like a normal bird with non clipped wings can. They are great with children, my daughter plays with him all the time. They LOVE kisses, I can sit on the couch and Kiwi will kiss my lips the whole time, it is so funny because he actually will stick his tongue out and try to tongue me, I think hubby gets a little jealous but they are very social birds. I made a play area for him above his cage with tree branchs that goes up to the ceiling. Theres some toys hanging and he enjoys to play on it, they do need some toys in the cage to keep them busy because they love to play! Also I have a fleece blanket handing in the cage like a hammock that he sleeps in. Even if they are just sitting on the couch with you is good interaction. I am amazed each day how smart they are and I am going to get another one in the furture. They are awsome and I would recommend one for sure but make sure it is handtamed. I feed my conure a mix of seeds, bird kibble, fresh/frozen veggies, fruits, eggs and yogurt. Oh and kiwi LOVES cheese but then again he loves anything you will feed him. They love music also, it is really funny when I have music on Kiwi will bob is head and dance around singing. If you have any other questions feel free to PM me! | parrots Hi, I presantly have 3 african greys a mealy amazon and a cockatiel. I did also have an unbrella cockatoo and a blue and gold macaw, they sadly passed away a few yrs ago. Parrots are very, very inteligent and should never be underestimated. birds, parrots can honestly be your sole mate and can become very attached and devoted to there owner. I had to go into hospital for quite some mths, about 4yrs ago, my macaw got so sick and died at the vets, they put his death down to a broken heart, they could find nothing wrong with him, this was very sad. enjoy your parrot no matter what breed, they are beautiful, and as said very inteligent, funny, naughty just like a small child and need to be watched like one too, if you dont be warned when i say they can be naughty they get into mischief, and can harm them selves, some do like making holes in the curtains and saying peepoo lol Parrots vary in many ways. my advise to anyone gettng a parrot if they dont have experience, is to gather up as much info as you can and learn about there needs, diet is very important in the well being, and there are things that can kill toys to play with a suitable cage that has plenty of room and lots of love and respect. any question or advise please ask, im sure others on the site that do have parrots would agree. enjoy your parrot and all the best hehe |

| Kiwi is very pretty! When I was looking into getting a bird, I was debating between a GCC and a parrotlet. I ended up going with a parrotlet. Her name is Fern.

| Ok so to all of you with birds, do any of you have cats? How does that work out? Can they be potty trained like dogs? So they don't poop on your shoulder. Where can I get a GCC I will NOT buy from a pet store.

| I had a boss who had a conure and his bird would actually give the dog commands (sit, stay, down ect.) and the shih tzu would actually listen!! It was the funniest thing I have ever seen. Also, whenever the shih tzu puppy would have an accident, the bird would scold her and say "Bad Lolly! Bad dog!" My boss said his puppy was completely housetrained within a month because the bird was helping to scold any accidents as they happened, no matter where he was! LOL!! The bird was his dog's nanny!
