| I'm gonna be a grandma .... to a Parrotlet! My Chi-town college daughter is adopting a Pacific Parrotlet. "Maggie" is only one generation removed from a true South American Parrotlet. Her grandma lived in South America. Which apparently means that her green coloring is still electric green less diluted from breeding. We've had parakeets and cockatiels, but we have no experience with Parrotlets. (And I think it's important that I learn too, because I'm waiting for the day to come when she calls saying "Mom, they decided no birds in our apartment - you have come get Maggie until we move!) She has visited Maggie at the wonderful breeder's home and hopes to pick her up this weekend. She said that she is very sweet, very curious, and very friendly. Do any YT'ers have Parrotlets? Any advice? The great thing is that I told her that the first thing she needed to do was find a great forum just like YT BEFORE she brings Maggie home, which she did! It's small compared to YT, but the people there seem absolutely wonderful and supportive. So far, I haven't read any rude (or "misintepreted") posts. They've been answering my daughter's questions really well too.

| It's such a cute little birdie! I love birds almost more than anything in the whole world (except my Yorkies of course). I think any type of parrot is a great pet; you just have to have the time and patience for them.

| Maggie is a doll! About 15 years ago we had a male named Petey and a female named Sarah...they were a riot! We had a portable play gym for them and a cage that had a play top on it with toys and chewy treats. You can teach them to talk and do tricks...they have a rather 'nasal' sound to their voice but it's really cute when they start talking. |

| Thanks guys! I'm excited for her. I just wish that we lived closer! The 2 1/2 hours makes it hard to "just run over" for a visit! Quote:

| LOL -I actually did hang a Sun Conure (beautiful yellow/red/green bird) information page right where my hubby keeps his keys and stuff. He just ignores it. He knows me sooooo well.

| Ooooh.....sun conures are so pretty and they've got such cute personalities....have you been around one before? They're one of the NOISIEST birds in creation, LOL. I always wanted one, but opted not to b/c I had enough 'noisemakers' at the house.

| I have a parrotlet. She's very sweet and loves to be out of her cage. She hates being alone. If I move from one room to another, she has to come along. Everyone talks about how quiet parrotlets are. Yeah, right! They might be quiet compared to other birds but her noises are enough to be annoying. They need a very large cage; compared to their tiny size. I have this cage: Bird Cage & Stand for Finch to Conure HQ 13221: WindyCityParrot.com, Parrot Cages, Parrot Food, Aviaries, Parrot Supplies,Bird Toys,Bird Cages She sleeps in a second cage. She loves toys. I purchase all her toys from a grat seller on eBay. I'd love to get a second one as I feel bad when I can't take her out of the cage but I'll have to wait until I move into a house before getting a second addition.

| They have three hand raised Sun Conures at our PetCo right now. My daughter was visiting so we went to the petstore to try to get her boyfriend a little more comfy around the birds. They were very playful and friendly! That's where I got the info sheet for my hubby.

Do you find that most vets are basicly knowledgable or does she need to find a specialized vet? And do you frequent any bird forums? Any recommendations?

I love the cage. It's at a great price. The cages in stores are insanely expensive. I put it together by myself in about an hour. She could always keep her smaller cage as a sleeping cage. That is what I do. It's VERY popular bird cage. A lot of people talk about how unsturdy the stand is but I roll it room-to-room on a daily basis with no problem. Most vets don't see birds so she'll have to find a vet that specializes in "exotics," particularly (obviously) birds. I visit TalkParrotlets.com on a somewhat regular basis but I don't post that often. Like you mentioned, it is so much smaller than YT that I can visit once or twice a week and not really miss anything. When does Maggie come home?

| Oh, they're so cute!! Maggie and Fern...LOL! Do they know their names when you call them? I never owned a bird...but I think some of them are so pretty. An ex-neighbor owned a cockatoo...big and kinda scary to me! She was running around the yard with it on her arm and it bit the #&*$ out of her!!

The TP forum needs more members! The ones they have seem really nice tho. (Oh, now that I know - YOU included, of course!!) Although I think they may be missing a spelling thread over there!
