| Venus & Adonis's new brother sick Long story how I got Max, a rockweiller, the new addition to the house. Short version, he came with my Mom (94 years old) Dec 29th. He belongs to my nephew in Austin, TX. I'd promised to take as good care of him as I do my 2 yorkies. Well today, had to keep that promise. He'd been throwing up over the weekend. Now you can imagine how scared this made me yesterday (so used to Yorkies), when he couldn't hold any food or water down at all. Yesterday, and last night, ALL the food and water came back up, along with a piece of plastic, that was thick, and I didn't recognize it being from anything he'd chewed on here. That freaked me out!! He went to my vet first thing this morning. Being 125 pounds they had to give him a little sedative to do x-rays. I had to leave him, cause if they didn't see anything, they wanted to run other tests too. Vet called about 1 hour later. Said his stomach was empty, and anyway, plastic like that doesn't show up good on an x-ray. Said he had no signs of dehydration at all (whewwww), and to hold his food and water till tonight, and start back with very small amounts of both. He said it may be from a gas bubble, or food allergy. Vet gave him a steroid shot, Put him on Hills zd prescription food for allergies. Yea, I know, its certainly nothing I'd have my 2 yorkies on, but honestly, Max has been fed Benniful all his 2-1/2 years in TX. I'm sure Hills can't be any worse than Benniful, except on the wallet. Said if the Hills didn't clear up the throwing up, might have to open him up, see whats going on. This scares me, as it isn't "my" dog. I didn't tell my Mom that part, as she was crying when the vet called and said nothing showed up in the x-ray. We both had candles going and I know she was praying too. So I'm still kinda scared till I know he can hold food and water down. I also know I promised to take care of him, as I do my 2 yorkies. I do the care, and Mom pays vet bills. Niece said Max threw up "some" when he lived in Tx. Seems not much was ever done about it. No change in food. Yesterday, it wasn't "some" it was everything, all food and even water. Have to remember I'm used to yorkies, and when the rockwieller threw up, you sure knew about it!! OMG...nothing a paper towel could handle! My 2 yorkies get along ok with Max. Venus (4 pounds)tries to play tug-o-war, and its so funny. Max does tear up toys though, and we've already had to throw away several ropes that were my 2's. Vet said "no more ropes for Max" so I will do as vet says do. And I know when he starts to tear a toy up now, it goes straight to the trash. I still haven't figured out what the green piece of plastic was that came up last night. I am kinda sure with as expensive as Hills zd is, and as much as he eats (125 pound dog), Mom won't have much of a problem letting him go back to Tx. Nephew said in March, he was going to take him back with him. Then later said he wasn't, he was just giving me an "out" if Max wore his welcome out. So I don't know what to expect when nephew comes in March. Max is no problem, but he's a big dog, and my home is much smaller than what he's used to. I'm not used to a big dog, and poop scooping the back yard, lol. Like poop scooping for a horse, after having yorkies for the past 7 years! I have 6-8 foot board fenced back yard. 3 go outside, 3 come right back in. I feed 2, whats one more. Mom loves Max, but she's also now has a strong bond with Venus and Adonis, since she's been here. Especially Venus. Venus is a lap dog, and loves the undivided attention Mom gives her. I've heard Mom talking to Venus many times, telling her how pretty she is, and how much she loves her. And at Mom's age, 94, she really needs smaller dogs. Mom and Max both, been with me about a month now. Mom didn't want to come without Max. I couldn't say no, as I know there is no way I could leave my 2. But I will take as good of care of Max, as I do my 2, as long as he's here. Nephew would kill me if something happend to him. Keep Max in your prayers please. We're hoping the new food agrees, so he won't have to have an operation. |
