YT 2000 Club Member | Hurassing phone calls I have been getting weird phone calls all day long, at first I didn't give it any thought, but around 6pm they started to get creepy. My husband had left for work and my 11 year old answered the phone while I was talking to my sister as she was picking her girl up. He asked the person for their name and he was cussed at so he hung the phone up. My older son got on the phone to make a phone call 2 minutes later and got a beep and answered it and it was the weird caller. They asked for his mother and he said I was busy and asked to take a message and the guy got all mean with my son saying I was on the porch . He hung up on the caller. So my sister got the next call and told him to stop calling when he made sexual remarks, and hung up the phone. 5 minutes later they called again and my sister yelled at them and said that we were calling the police. So I did. They gave me a incident # and her badge # and was told to call my phone provider to have a trace put on the phone. I called cable and was put on hold , almost 10 minutes later the dude told me that they can't do that, I have to get a court order to have the # released to police to press charges for phone harassment. I haven't gotten any more but I am home at night with my kids by myself and its scarry because that guy caller made comments like he knew our routine! I called my mom to vent my frustrations with cable and she called them up to find out what we could do now and I have to pay to have Call Screener put on! Anyway thanks for letting me complain but I also think that others should know that Cable phone will not trace calls but if you have a court order then they will release the #"s. |

| I've been a victim of that in the past. Since my phone service is through our local company there was a 2 digit number I could dial after each call which would trace the call. I kept a record of date, time etc and after 3 traces could go to the telephone company sign papers and then they would turn it over to the police. The last call I had I was very calm and firm when I told him the calls were being traced and I would be filing charges if he called again. So far he hasn't called and it's been several months. I doubt the guy knows you can't get a trace on them so I'd use the above tactic and see what happens. I know how you feel because the calls always came in when I was alone and it is scary. |

YT 2000 Club Member | The person calling me is using a voice changer and sounds like a machine, but then will say some words with a normal voice, it's creepy and scarry because my husband works nights. Ny husband said that the next time they call I am to tell them that the pone is being traced and we will be pressing charges. I get scared when my phone rings now!! |

My furkids Donating Member | Do you have caller ID? I know Verizon has this but, not sure if other phone companies carry this feature..... If you press (I think it's *67) it activates a call intercept. If the person calling has an unlisted or private number they will have to press *82 before they enter the rest of your number or they won't be able to bet through. This way (if you have caller ID) the number will show up. You could give it to the police.

| Becareful about saying the phone is being traced.. Not sure if thats totally legal if your not actually doing it.. I think I heard that somewhere.. But anyways if you can after looking up some laws record your phonecalls. If they call again answer the phone say "Do not call my house again.. I have already called the police and we are pressing charges it would be in your best interest to not call again"... I believe the phone company keeps phone records a minimum of two weeks.. So record the times when they called get a court order and find out when they called and I think you might be able to find out where they called from.. If its a wierd number like 00123456789 its from Skype.. An online based calling company.. I'm not sure how well you can trace those calls because it is international.. Your best bet is just to tell them not to call again and that your pressing charges.. Most likely its some teens who don't have anything better to do and they will hopefully just stop calling you.. Well I hope everything works out.. There are some lawyers in my family if you need me to find out some info for you just ask |

I was told to say this when I called the phone company...It is NOT illegal to say this. And even if it was illegal the only person to report this would be the person making the calls..and I don't think he would do that.

My furkids Donating Member | I live in mass too! I know it's illegal to record a call without letting the person know they are being recorded and, that is very sad..especially when the person making the calls is the one that is do something illegal.

YT 2000 Club Member | I had the cable company activate the call screen feature for now. Monday my husband is going to have it were we get the court order for the cable phone company to release the #'s to the police. I have caller ID so I have written down all of the times I got a call from the creepy dude he's called 23 times . I got one more call before I called cable back to activate the screen and do not disturb feature. I took the advice of one poster and had a whistle handy, I don't think he liked it but oh well! I do not think I will be able to sleep tonight and I told my mom to be prepared for a late night chat! She said that she would come over and sit with me if I wanted so I might take her up on the offer! She knows that I am her chicken little, I always call her when I am scared of something! |

| That's ridiculous. My cable phone company won't even let me make collect calls to my home phone. Great service right?

| You did the right thing by having the call screen activated. I worked for the local telephone company for 8 years and blowing the whistle into the phone was the first thing I told people to do. Next was the call screen. (Most of the time, it's kids getting a cheap thrill and the whistle stops 'em in their tracks) If the calls continue after that, the call screen is the next step. At the company I worked for, you did have to get a court order for a trace to be put on the line - but it's not hard to get one at all and it's worth it for your peace of mind. Make sure you're careful with your personal safety when your hubby is at work: doors and windows locked, blinds closed, etc. I have a permit to carry a pistol and keep it on me at all times. (My son was a cop for 9 years and insisted) Also, if anything feels "off" at all --- call 911!! That's what it's for and if by chance someone was watching you they'll get the message really quickly that you're not playing around. Cops would rather check out your house and property when you call than have to investigate after something happens. Sorry to be so long - it just bothers me that you're being harrassed.
