| The View w/Whoopie Goldberg Did anyone watch the view this morning with Whoopie Goldberg defending Michael Vick and his dog fighting? I missed it but my mom called to tell me about it. I did a search on yahoo and read the article...totally disgusting to defend somebody who willingly promoted and tortured animals. I am writing the view a letter.....

| I didn't watch, but I heard about it. How could you defend something and blame it on his culture? Culture (which IMO is the stupidest excuse for it) or not, doesn't make it right. |

| I watched it. I don't think she was defending him or "blaming" it on his culture. She readily admitted it was wrong. She DID, however, say that in the rural areas of the South, there are people who see dogs and other animals as just that and/or as "sport". She also said that maybe that is the type of background he came from. Yes, she used the word culture. What she said was TRUE. I have lived in the South my entire life, and there are truly some areas that are exactly like she described. Do I think that is or should be used as an excuse? Absolutely not. I'm just saying that I watched it and sometimes its easier to tell what someone meant when they said something by the WAY in which they said it than it is by reading it in an article. Don't yell at me. I'm just telling ya'll what I saw her say and what I think about the WAY she said it. That's all.

| [QUOTE=Graleyne;1351061] She DID, however, say that in the rural areas of the South, there are people who see dogs and other animals as just that and/or as "sport". She also said that maybe that is the type of background he came from. Yes, she used the word culture. What she said was TRUE. I have lived in the South my entire life, and there are truly some areas that are exactly like she described. Do I think that is or should be used as an excuse? Absolutely not. I totally agree with her statement. Some people do just view dogs and other animals as a sport. I also believe it can be the type of background he came from for example in china where they use dog and cat fur and skin them alive a child that has saw these things growing up can absolutely grow up to think there is nothing wrong with it and can feel ok doing the same. I know this because i have a friend of another culture that thinks its ok that dogs and cats are being used to make fur on clothing he simly sees it as they have to make money some how which makes me very angry but thats his opinion. We are animals lovers here and while i do not condone any type of animal abuse sometimes i think we need to try to remember not everyone believes a dog or cat or any animal for that matter is an actually part of there family some simply see them as a pet not their "baby" or for the ones they use them for uses we do not approve of simply see them as animal or sport. |

| I watched the clip on Yahoo! This is exactly how Rosie's stuff used to get blown out of proportion. They were just discussing it. Whoopie was like, well I don't know why no one has brought up the fact that he might have been raised to think this was OK. Then all 4 agreed that it was NOT OK. The whole point of The View is to bring up stuff like that and then argue about it. I think Whoopie will do fine.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I saw it and was disturbed by it. I just can't see anyone defending dog fighting, cultural or not they know it's wrong (not socially acceptable)or they wouldn't be hiding it.

| In addition to the dog fighting, there was illegal gambling going on. This is specifically forbidden in his contract with the NFL. He knew what he was doing was wrong. If he didnt, he wouldn't have lied about it initially. I do not believe there is any excuse for what he was involved in. I really feel like anyone who can be that cruel to animals is a very scarey individual. I would love to hear from his Mother to see if that's how she raised him. The whole thing is just sad.

I don't feel that she was trying to offer any sort of excuse for what he did. It was just brought up like, "Hey, has anyone else looked at it this way?" I am sad to say that there ARE places down here where mothers DO raise their children in that type of environment. I'm not saying MV's mother was one of them, I'm just pointing out there it does happen. In fact down here, I would be TERRIFIED to list a dog in the local paper as "free to a good home" or even for a low price because their are people who will pretend to be loving, and then take the dog and use it as "bait" in a dog fight. It's horrible, and its sad, but it does happen.
