Bella Boo & Diggy Too! Donating GS Member | Canon Rebel XT Here are the sample pics I have of Action shots.....My favorite is the baseball....my son is throwing the ball to frist and it actually stopped the ball in mid air! Also my son at a Gus Macker tourney, my son pitching for his travel team, and of course the fur butts racing to get inside first! If you look at the baseball on where he is turned to the side...you can see the ball bouncing off the infield....hard to see because white ball and light dirt but it shows how much this camera stops action. These may look a little blurry on here because you have to resize them so small but the larger file is crystal clear!

Therapy Dog Donating Member | That's amazing - this is just what I am looking for and I can see the ball in the dirt on that last picture. I've been on a mission all morning surfing the net for the best price...hahaha. Is this camera easy to use? I think I found one that has a bundle price with tripod and both lens so I may get that today but I'm going to look in our Sunday paper and see what Best Buy; Circuit City and our local camera shops have but so far I found better deals on line. Thanks!!!

| i thought about getting a cannon rebel, but I had some people tell me that its harder to get the right settings and such unless you really learn about it all. I didn't know if that was true. Can you let me know if its easy to use? I went with an olympus one that is now discontinued( it was replaced by the evolt, i think) I think its an 8080...i think. It an 8 megapixel camera. Its my 4th camera in 3 years....we just keep upgrading all the time. I just bought my ex boyfriend's daughter a cute little red 6 megapixel camera for her birthday. She is very excited to have her first real camera. First picture she took was of Aurora...LOL.

Therapy Dog Donating Member | What exactly is RAW format? Why is that important? Is that like JPEG format?

Bella Boo & Diggy Too! Donating GS Member | Raw means it not altered or finalized yet. you can make a bunch of changes to colors and touching up much nicer. I personally dont use it as I am not that savvy with photoshop or equivelant programs which are what you use to alter a RAW picture. I just stick with Jpeg and small fixes maybe someday I will learn how to fix RAW pics!

Donating YT 2000 Club Member | I got the same camera as an anniversary gift--still learning to use it but most of the puppy pictures I take are with this camera. My webmaster has updated my website....enjoy the new pictures. More puppy pictures on Tuesday. |

| Very nice pictures. Are you using the lens that came with the camera? I just picked up a XTi and some lens. It's not that hard to use the manual settings. For action shots you should use the AV setting and set your aperture as wide as possible f/4 or lower and the camera will select the right shutter speed. Also set the AF to servo mode and follow the action to anticipate it. Regarding RAW vs. jpeg. RAW is the actual picture that you took without any compression being made. This lets you adjust many aspects of the picture in post production. Whereas jpeg pictures are compressed somewhat and you can only manipulate some aspects of the picture. I myself just started learning about the wonderful aspects of photography and the best thing is that if the shot is awful, you just erase and try again Here are two pictures I shot of Angel. The first one is her chewing on her favourite toy and the second one is of her just leaving her feet to jump for a stuffed toy. It's a little blurry because I didn't focus just on her but the whole frame.

| I got a Canon Rebel XT for Christmas and I love it. I use manual mode most of the time and once you learn how the different setting affect each other it is easy to get any kind of shot you want. The biggest help I ever found was a book called The canon digital rebel field guide. I found it on amazon and it explains everything you could ever want to know about this wonderful camera. Sonya

| I have the Canon Rebel XT too and love it. I have taken some amazing pictures and still do not understand all of the exposure settings. Thankfully the auto settings do a pretty good job. My only disappointment is night action shots. I need a faster lens to stop the blur or need to learn the art of panning. I bought mine mostly for son's sports too and although the baseball pictures are great, my football shots less so, and basketball -- well even the pros complain about those weird gym lights. I would stick with Canon lenses. I strayed once to a Quantaray for my telephoto and am not happy with it. My favorite lens is the little 50 mm 1.8 -- takes such clear shots you want to reach out and touch them. I have not braved raw photos yet either although my reading is telling me I need to learn. I think I have a point & shoot mind.
