| Laminate wood flooring How do you clean it? I sweep it 100 times a day and still get stuff up like I haven't swept at all. Everything I mop it with seems to leave a sticky film on it. Things I have tried: 1) Pledge Multi-surface Floor Cleaner - supposed to safely clean wood, ceramic, linoleum/vinyl, no wax floors, and laminate safely and leaving no dulling, oily residue. Got the floor clean, but left the residue. 2.) Murphy's Oil Soap - depends on how I use it. If use it with the mop and let it dry I get residue and water spots. If I use the mop then go back and rinse it really well with hot water, I get the spots and only a little residue. It works perfectly if I get on my hands and knees and wash the floor with a washcloth, then dry with a towel. I have these floors throughout the entire house. I can't clean them on my hands and knees all the time. 3.) White vinegar and hot water - got them clean but the smell was awful and it left water spots. Took forever for the vinegar smell to get out of the house and that's with opening all the windows and running fans and air purifiers. 4.) Just plain hot water - left spots Now I have found that if I vacuum the floors instead of sweeping them I only have to do it twice a day. Anyone have any suggestions on what to mop it with?

Donating YT 500 Club Member | BOY DO I FEEL YOUR PAIN!!! Just put laminate in my LR/DR two months ago ... DON'T use Murphy's! We use it on our hardwoods and vinyl but it's disastrous on the laminate. We are constantly running the sweeper. (Cat hair, cat litter and the dog tracking both through the house.) Best solution for cleaning: DON'T mop. Or if you do, here's the trick -- you have to BUFF it dry or else you will see all the little smears from the mop! I bought some Pergo cleaner that you spray on. You are supposed to leave it on for a minute or two and then wipe off. I do this with damp paper towels and then go right back over it with a dry one when I'm doing touch-up on the main traffic areas. When I do the whole floor, I do the same thing EXCEPT I use an empty Swiffer head and put the paper towels across it. (Supposedly the Swiffer wipes have something in them that encourages streaking. So I just use plain ole Viva.) |

| I figured out the having to buff it dry. If I don't, then streak/spot/film city! OTH it makes a great job for the kids! Follow behind mommy with a towel. lol I thought these floors were going to be so great and easy because of the doggies. Just wipe up the mess and go. Oh no no no. Carpet was easier to keep clean! What really stinks is this is a rental house and they just put the floor in before we moved in. At least now I know what kind of floor NOT to put in the new house!

| cleaner I use a liminate cleaner also..then wrap the mop in a towel ( I save old bath towels and cut them smaller) and mop up the dampness...it buffs it. I tell myself all that dirt used to deep in the carpet pile..at least my floors are clean and smell great now. |

I also thought these floors would be easier to maintain. On the plus side, though, they do not retain the odor and all the crap that fell through the carpet's pile! That's the only nice thing I can say though. | |

| My SIL uses Murphy's Oil Soap on hers and hers is beautiful. I don't know what I did wrong or different. I've heard others say it isn't good for laminate and I've heard just as many swear by it.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | I bought Pergo brand cleaner at either Lowe's or Home Depot. (Can't remember which I'm in both so much.) I know there are other brands, too, but I've not tried those yet since I liked the Pergo kind! |

| The vinegar should have worked really well, but you used WAY too much if you could smell it so strong. I like useing a little alcohol in a gallon of water. Make sure you use a sponge mop and not so wet either, just moist. |

| I have not heard of a laminate cleaner that does not leave a sticky residue but I would love to know if someone finds one. As for the water spots, this happens when you use water. The key to preventing water spots is to use as little water as possible and to dry the floor as fast as possible. You can wipe the floor dry after mopping but this is a hassle and time consuming. I have also heard of using Windex. The ammonia helps the floor to dry quickly but be careful because ammonia can be harmful to the floor if too much is used. Or you can make your own cleaner by using a mix of 1/3 white vinegar, 1/3 rubbing alcohol, and 1/3 water and putting this in a spray bottle. Using this ratio, you should not be able to smell the vinegar when you finished cleaning the floor. Doing a small section of floor at a time, spray the floor and then use a microfiber mop or a Swiffer to go over the area. The vinegar helps to neutralize the water and the alcohol helps the floor to dry quicker, preventing spots. Some people also add a couple drops of dishwashing soap to the mixture but I have not tried it. Also remember that, the darker the floors, the more water spots are going to stand out. I have dark mahogany floors which are beautiful but hard to keep clean.

| Also forgot to add that I have a high quality dust mop that I use at least once a day. Its easy and quick to use and keeps my floor looking nice between cleanings.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Pergo brand cleaner in a spray. I wipe it off with a damp paper towel and then buff over to dry. No residue. |

| Oh wow, I can't believe I forgot to share this with everyone....... http://www.bonakemi.com/products/spe...M710013334.htm In our new house (two years now!), we have all laminate floors (no carpet!). I originally bought a Hoover Hard Floor machine thing (can't remember the exact name) and it did a fairly good job but it died. My cleaning lady (who comes twice a month) said that she saw this Bona X product at our local hardware store and had been wanting to try it out. So, I researched it on-line and then went and bought the starter kit at the store. I wanted to buy it locally so I could take it back if I didn't like it. This thing works beautifully! All you do is spray a section of the floor and then use the mop looking thing to wipe it. I won't lie, you feel like you've had a workout afterwards because when the microfiber pad gets damp from the spray, you really have to put some muscle into pushing it back and forth on the floor. I'm not meaning that is extremely difficult, it's just not as smooth and easy as say a mop on a wet floor. A couple days before we were supposed to start moving our furniture in the new house, I went through the whole house and cleaned the floors with a Swiffer wet-jet. That thing is horrible! The floors looked worse afterwards. The streaks were awful! And any other product I tried that had water in it, just left the floors spotty. This Bona X thing truly is amazing. As for the sweeping thing, I feel your pain! We are out in the country. We have an Australian Shepherd outside and two big fat fluffy outside cats. Tatum is the only animal inside yet the other animal hair always manages to get inside. That and the dirt and mess that comes with living in the country, of course. I have a Shark sweeper (cordless little vacuum thing) that I use at least twice a week all through the house (like this one... http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html...sin=B000A7DBJU) - although it could almost stand it every other day. I have found that thing to be a lifesaver too. I told my sister and SIL about the Bona X cleaning thing because they have laminate. I can't believe I forgot to share my great find with all of you..... especially after all the times people have asked about laminate floors. Hopefully others out there will find this product as great as I have!
