| College Students: Ever doubt your major? So right now I'm majoring in education (my SECOND major). I've been working on this for about 2 years, so I'm pretty far along, but not to long as to where I couldn't change my major. I keep second guessing myself... What if I'm not good enough? Do I wanna do with all the stresses, etc. So hard!! Ever doubt your major? |

| oh i did all the time ... the hting about my major was that it was something i chose b/c of my parents and never really something i liked ... once i found something i liked it, i was already to far in so i just sucked it up and finished with it. i will prolly go back and get my masters in a related area but def. not the same thing. lol. my best advice is find the major that you have hte most passion for and that it'll be something you'll want to do in the future. b/c if you enjoy it you'll do well .. if its somethign that you don't enjoy doing hte work for then you won't do well and won't do your best. gluck!!!

| I changed my major 3 times while in college...finally decided on education and have been teaching for 21 years. I love it! But I know so many new teachers that come into the field and are burned out within 2-3 years of teaching! I truly believe administration is sometimes the key factor. There is a lot they can do to make your teaching life a lot easier and stress free. My son, also a teacher, changed his major 4 times, before graduating with a math/technology degree. My daughter, who just graduated in Hospitality Management/Nutrition, changed her major numerous times--to the tune of six years of college for an undergraduate degree. Now, both are very happy with their final majors. IMO--I don't think many students, right out of high school, have a clue about what they should major in. Many think they know, but truely don't even know what "that career" even incompasses. Good luck! BTW--Both my son and myself have both gotten our masters' in technology education.

| Yes, one of my friends changed her major a couple of times, and now she is doing what she wants and is totally excelling in her major. Another friend of mine changed her major a few times and is getting ready to graduate but is now worried that she won't do well in her field. I think everyone doubts themselves sometimes, but if you like your major, be confident that you will do well

| I had a really random major....Agricultural Business & Economics....I never planned to use it but I never changed my major because after talking to several employers and career counselors, they all gave me the same answer....It really doesn't matter what you major in as long as you major in SOMETHING! Having a college degree simply shows that you are "trainable." Unless you want to go into something that requires a specific major in order to advance, like medicine or nursing, then your major really isn't too important. |

| I changed my major 5 times. I started out in math education & then elementary education. I quit education because they were trying to train me how to raise other peoples children & i knew I would get in trouble because I can't keep my mouth shut about how I truely feel & think, I'm not incredible tactful or PC. So I finally ended up in management. It was easy for me & I enjoyed some of my classes, but I'm still not sure it was right major for me, but I don't know what would be either. Some days I wish I would of stuck with the math. Anyway if you have a passion & it's education stick with it, you'll be happy you did. If this is not your passion, just something you think you'll be able to find a job in then maybe you need to re-evaluate. If you talk to a guidance counselor they can give you tests that will point you in the right direction.

Yorkie Lover Donating Member | I changed my several times before settling on Management as something general and once I got into it I found out I really loved Economics and decided to go ahead and double major since I was so far along. Now that I am about to graduate in two weeks, I don't really want to do ANYTHING with my major, I really want to do something in Human Resources in the educational field. I currently work for an elementary school in the office and love being in education and have decided to go and get my master's in Human Resources...but who knows I tend to change my mind alot. I know I want to stay in education but not teach, so that makes it harder...LOL

What do you want to be when you grow up? A nurse, a mommy, a doctor, a teacher,,,you probably answered that question rather quickly growing up. But it sounds like you're looking for a safety net instead of a career | |

| My whole life I wanted to be a vet, until high school biology and dissecting stuff! Plus I definitely couldn't afford to be in school that long, so I decided on Pharmacy. I actually was more interested and not grossed out by dissections then! After my first year I switched to engineering. After my first year I switched to engineering technology. After my first year I wanted to switch to architecture but I knew I wouldn't have the money to finish the program, so I stuck with engineering tech. I'm done now and I have a job which I don't mind but it's not what I want to do for the rest of my life. Just my luck that halfway through my last year I found out about a Veterinary Technician program I could take... After I pay off some of my debt I think I'll go back to school for that! My high school homeroom/physics/calculus teacher left his job the same year I graduated, so he could go back to school to become a dentist. When he told my class his decision he said something that has stuck with me ever since, and my friends always repeated it to me when I was unsure about my future.. "Nothing is EVER set in stone." So don't be worried about changing your mind! Even if you stick with something now and don't like it in a few years, you're never too old to go back!
